DHL payment for import duty to canada

Hello everyone,

Small question one of my order is currently block by DHL because waiting the payment for the customs duty. I'm the buyer and I did not receive an email for the payment.

It is with the "ebay international shipping".

Do I need to do something or ebay will deal with it ?

EBay can't do anything about it if you don't tell them you have a problem.

The phone reps have a terrible reputation for getting you off the phone as soon as possible even if that means giving you the advice you want to hear instead of the advice you need to have.

The social media Chat accounts are covered by trained eBay employees with some authority.
And you get a transcript so you can compare what you heard with what you were told.

But First:

Does the original invoice mention the Canadian duty and sales taxes as part of your payment?
This is something eBay needs to know.

DHL seems* to be double charging import fees.

* "seems" because the reports have been a lot more emotional than factual.

Unless you prepaid tax and duty,  DHL is collecting it from you no although its odd that you haven't  received an email with the info.  If I were you I would first try to contact DHL.  Hopefully if you give them the tracking number they will be able to help you.

hey this is not solved.

Ebay is supposed to brokerage this stuff. it guarantees "no taxes or extra charges upon delivery".

This has never happened before

eBay DHL etc's revised procedure is to collect any duties/taxes owing PRIOR to delivery. That's  been stating since during the time of Covid.  Why it is so important to have a valid number on file so you can be contacted when there is monies owing. That way no dealing with cash, debit or CC at time of delivery by driver. If there is a descrepancy on amount owing it would need to be handled via the links.  As noted in post below, things have changed since eIS was first implemented and are constantly being updated.

See my response on the thread you started on this subject.  The new "eBay International Shipping" handles taxes and duties differently than the old US Global Shipping Program.

Seems to be!  Last week I had a package coming from the U.S., DHL asked for the duties/taxes and import stuff.  I paid it, $25.  Then 2 days later, Canada Post asks again for $35 to cover what seems to be the same thing so in the end, an ebay item of $68 U.S. cost me $185.   Thanks for the post.

Sounds as though the communication between DHL and Canada Post isn't what it should be.

There should be some paperwork that came with your item that you can fill out and submit to Canada Border Services for a refund on the amount you paid to Canada Post for taxes and duties/tariffs (if applicable).  You can also find it here:

Just be sure you know what the fees are:

-Taxes

-Brokerage (courier ground service only)

-Duties

-Canada Post processing fee

If you like reading old threads, you might find ones about UPS from 10-20 years ago interesting. UPS Ground to Canada wasn’t getting much love back then either.
