Seller keeps cancelling my order saying that he would lose too much money shipping from Mexico.

On August 3, I purchased a rare item on Ebay for $90 ( $25 FexEx International Economy for shipping worldwide).  Ebay indicates that the seller is from Mexico, has joined May 2025 , has sold 7 items (23 items listed) and has one positive review (written in Spanish).  I bought the item using Paypal, and provided seller with a valid address in Canada (not a PO Box).  Seller cancelled my order two weeks later using the reason "something was wrong with buyer's shipping address" then seller sent me this message "Hello, sorry for the inconvenience and the long wait but unfortunately the shipment is being more expensive than anticipated, I'm actually losing quite a lot of money. So I will have to cancel the order, sorry about that again, the tariffs are going higher and higher".

So I sent a message to seller advising to use Ebay International Shipping instead of FedEx.

Seller reposted the item... same price, same FedEx worldwide shipping cost!  So I bought it again (Aug 20) this time using a valid US address (not a PO box).  Seller cancelled again today using the same excuse.

I am wondering if it is a scam.

But then again, I might just be dealing with a new seller who does not know how to ship worldwide.

Any advise?

I agree. It does not sound like a scam. Just a seller who's out of their comfort zone.

Advise? Don't buy anything from them.

As far as I know, eBay International Shipping isn’t an option for sellers based in Mexico (at least, not yet) and I think FedEx International Economy might only be for shipping between Canada and the US.

The sellers complaint about "tariffs" makes me wonder if he's being railroaded into paying the Canadian sales taxes and duties (if applicable) on the item at the time of shipment.

Why would it be a scam? Did you lose anything?

And yes, international tracked shipping from Mexico to Canada is expensive. This new seller probably hasn't figured out how to block Canada (or other countries they don't want to sell to) yet. Please do the poor new seller a favour and stop buying from them so that they don't have to go through the trouble to cancel and then relist again.
