Announcement to American buyerson each listing

"Import fees due prior to delivery
Customs will apply import fees when your item arrives, including duties, taxes, and processing fees. The shipping carrier will contact you to pay them prior to delivery"

What do you think is the attitude of the USA buyers to this notice on each item from Canadian sellers (from other countries probably as well) ?
Even on the postcard with the price of $2.99 Cdn.?

I am speaking about people who could for years to buy without custom fees for items valued up to $ 800 US.
The word "negative" is probably too soft.

My sells actually stopped, I am not getting enough to cover my store's subscription.  And as you can see I am selling low priced items.
I am not blaming anybody but eBay's "survival" is my question - Americans were the largest crowd of my buyers.  Probably most of you experience the same or similar situation.

For over 30 years I was doing very serious underwriting and my habit to evaluate the risk turns on automatically.

Wrote this note just to express my feelings... Thanks for "listening"

me thinks the attitude of the USA buyers is much different than that of their Gov't leader's attitude that interprets something along the lines of "NO business but USA business" = no business dealings,NO purchasing from outside the USA except on MY terms; otherwise there will be consequences...

Honestly, better to warn them than not to. I have an American buyer who just refused the package to avoid paying customs fees. In any case, better to not make the sell if its just going to get returned/ refuse package and create all kinds of hassles.

Im not a seller by any means. I just sell random house items whenver i dont want to deal with people from Kijiji. But I am dealing with $2500 item refused by the buyer over USD$1100 tariffs. Them having the option to just refuse the package and not to pay their tariffs can create a lot of headches. just not worth selling to them from my point of view. I didnt even know it was an option not to pay the tariffs, I always did for mine lol

It's the old adage the best surprise is no surprise. This happened instantly with the getting rid of the de minimus with situations that vary...all over the map. Makes dealing with unpredictability (constant modifications/exceptions etc) very challenging. For both sellers and buyers.

I just wish ebay would take that message off of media catagories that DO NOT HAVE ANY TARRIFFS OR DUTIES on them.

SO FUSTRATING!

sorry for the rant, lol

Although here on eBay, my selling may be all but done due to this site no longer being a viable outlet for my items, but my other selling site has a wider interest from Canadians for the categories of items I offer, so sales from within Canada are sufficient on that site for me to continue listing more & more items there...All is not lost when there are alternatives...C'est la vie! ....accept,adjust ,adapt and carry on!

The problem is that the statement is not entirely true. Sellers who ship with Canada Post or a cross border ship have to pay the tariffs on behalf of the seller because the tariffs have to be prepaid. Only courriers like UPS and Fedex allow you the option to ship "delivered duty unpaid." The buyer then has to pay both the tariffs and a high brokerage fee. The statement should be modified to reflect this somehow. Instead of "will", they should use "may."
