Buy a macbook in the US and ship to Canada - shipping cost EIS costs btw 220 - 258 dollars? Haha

And that doesn't incldue import fees and taxes.

So even a 500 used laptop gets a 258 canadian dollars shipping charge. It's not one but many of the macbooks listings have these sort of shipping fees.

So if this is sort of shipping cost Ebay has for things to ship cross border then I don't see myself signing up for IES. I rather eat the tariffs, if I need to, if buyers don't pay extra or I eat the chair.

I haven't bought a used laptop from the US for maybe like a decade, I used to pay like 30-40 dollars tops. Where are we living now. Good luck ebay with this sort of business.

More than a quarter of my sales this month have been international through eIS. The program may not be perfect, but it does seem to be working rather well. Hopefully they'll be able to get the shipping prices a little lower as the program matures.

It's all relative. There are plenty of MacBook listings from the US with more reasonable shipping charges.

Moreover, there are many more that ship from Canada; quite a lot offering free shipping.

Is this a joke?
There are a lot of things that were cheaper a decade ago!

Just source them within Canada...

Just over a year ago, USPS announced that it was eliminating or renegotiating the commercial discounts that it gave to consolidators that piggybacked on the USPS network.  This would have affected services such as DHL GlobalPost.

https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/national-international/usps-ending-discounts-shipping-consolidators/3643...

I noticed that after this change was announced, eIS's shipping rates for listings where the import charges were deferred (DDU) shot way up, but its rates for listings where import charges were paid at checkout (DDP) seemed to be relatively stable, but this was for smaller, less expensive items than MacBooks.  I think the DDU items to Canada are generally handled by DHL while the DDP items to Canada are generally handled by Asendia, but don't quote me on that.

eIS may be using a completely different set of carriers for electronics than the ones it uses for lower-value items and adding a stiff premium because of the nature of items: pricey and fraud-prone.  I did find one listing for a MacBook where the seller was using Priority Mail International for US$60/C$85 to Canada, but they had a feedback rating of 1, so read into that what you want.

Using eIS doesn't prevent you from offering other shipping methods in your listings in addition to eIS.  It just looks that way to us because most US sellers don't do this.  That's something to keep in mind when you do get opted into the program.

From 2020 to 2025 we had a de minimus of $150 on NAFTA purchases.

Before that it was $20.

The size of the package makes a difference. If the seller gave the wrong size (larger than accurate) eIS and shippers accept the larger /dimensional sizing.

And the cost of shipping by USPS has not only risen, but there is currently a "seasonal" surcharge.

Other companies may have the same sort of "seasonal " surcharges.

None are excuses, but may be part of the explanation.

That's.....

Either you are here to make a profit or to run a charity.

If you don't want to make a profit, then donate your goods to a charity that can distribute the money locally.

We all pay taxes, which includes duty and tariffs on imports.

But we pay them to Canada, for the benefit of Canadians.

And I see no reason to pay for Donald Trump's insanity.
