Have had 2 cancellations in a row tonight

I have been selling on eBay for over 23 years & rarely ever had a cancellation. Tonight I have had 2 in a row. One put the reason as Ordered By Mistake (even though they accepted my offer) & another said Found A Better Price. Has eBay changed their policy recently? Are buyers able to change their minds a lot easier now?

Not that I am aware of.

Probably just  a coincidence.

I think, as usual, wink wink nudge nudge @femmefan1946 is right. 😎

The answer to your Q: "Are buyers able to change their minds a lot easier now?"  is YES, absolutely!

eBay Canada now allows buyers an easy opportunity to cancel any purchase up until the item is showing as "Shipped".

This change occured a few months back. If you have a 2 day handling time or any handling time whatsoever you may want to consider that as a window for a cancellation.  In the words of USA's Donny U Know Hu... "Ship baby ship!"

Seller: "Sorry, I can't cancel your order because I shipped it 5 minutes before you ordered it... "

Seriously though, if we do ship we buy a label (with the customer's money) and take it to the shipper. Then the flakey customer , who told us they didn't want it, opens a Claim and we have to refund, either paying return postage or abandoning the purchase, so we are out more money by refusing than by agreeing.

We do have other recourse.
The Blocked Buyer List is one.

And of course....Voo doo doll.jpg

Where I come from the labels are free - it's the postage that costs.

I assume you are referring to that idiot eBay system where the item gets shipped to eBay (at a cost to the buyer) relabeled, sent somewhere else (at another cost of the buyer), relabeled, and after a month or so it arrives at your doors. All this for only $25.00 ... what a steal eh!

Looks like eBay is honouring the 'buyer remorse' or 'cooling off' thing that most retailers do.

What's wrong with that?

But, how does that "cancellation window" work?

Does it take in account the actual physical shipping (i.e., taking the packaged and labelled order to the post office) as the order being "shipped", or it is marked as shipped when you purchase the label from eBay? - That's what I see all the time.

I believe the order is considered "Shipped" as soon as you purchase the label and "shipped" shows on your orders list.

There's a lot of different stories about more change coming.  One on eBay dot com after a buyer makes a purchase the seller won't be notified for 1 hour to allow for buyer cancellation.   I don't know if that one is true. It could sure spell disaster for people who cross list.
