By the way the computer geek jargon in these articles is WAY beyond me. Is there any simple way to ensure the browser one uses is protected?

Maybe someone other than me can put it in layman terms as I am just as in the dark as to exactly what it means. This just came out earlier today.

Basicly the encryption (ssl3) for payments to ebay, has a hole in it , meaning hackers can get in and steal information (credit cards, names, addresses)
Ebay is not secure it can be exploited.
I have secured my browser by not letting it use SSL3 and when I try to go to Ebay I get this message.
Secure Connection Failed
An error occurred during a connection to signin.ebay.ca. Cannot communicate securely with peer: no common encryption algorithm(s). (Error code: ssl_error_no_cypher_overlap)
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the web site owners to inform them of this problem.
