WWYD when someone ask for a 80% discount and then begs, pretty please?

WWYD when someone ask for a 80% discount and then begs, pretty please?  Of course I blocked them and have not responded to them.  Should I just ignore them?  I am not willing to negotiate with them.

I would ignore, I don't generally bother to block. Not unless they are being really annoying and aggressive, etc, etc, and making me angry.

I have a few people who regularly ask for significant discounts. I just say no and they go away. I've had a few people aggressively ask for a discount and become annoying when I said no, so I ignored, they continued to annoy me, then I blocked.

"Hi, thanks for the interest. I am going to let it run at the listed price".

Of course the unsolicited discount requested is very low, and if I would have listed at that price the item would have been sold already.   They don't bother me as it shows folks are looking, and there is not a bad correlation between inquires and items selling not much later.

I also only block when someone is sending weird, feels off, or has aggresive vibes.  It does happen that some of these turn into sales at the reqular price.

I do wonder with the frequency of offers, and that you get offers on items you just look at and are not watching motivates these kind of messages.

Eighty per cent off?

Sometimes I regret that mama raised me to be a lady.

I might counter-offer at 10% off. Or just say no.

But.

When we enable Best Offers we can also enable  automatic Reject/Accept  parameters.

For example on a $100 item you might set $85 as your lowest immediately Acceptable bid and $80 as your "reject" rate.

The customer who Offers $85 (or higher) is automatically accepted.

The customer who bids $80 gets a polite letter from eBay encouraging them to try again.

And many do.

But you never see the lowballs until they higher than your automatic Rejection.

From what I see the OP does not use best offer, and these are "offers" sent by messenger.  I don't use offers and get messages asking for discounts or "can you do $x?"

That is true.  I don't use best offer. This person just messaged me out of the blue and then told me that someone else was selling it for way cheaper, that bugs me, then buy it from them, I say.

When somebody watches an item, I do send them a 12% off.  I usually price my items in the ball park, but a few are worth more and scarce, hence the higher price.

I just blocked them and not responded.  My feeling is that they would be a problem.  I just looked up and they live in Spain and I don't sell internationally.   So just as well that I blocked them.

I sort of imply it's not up to me to give discounts.  Something like:

"Hi there.......thanks for you offer but i'll have to decline.

apologies,

andrew"

I would also check their feedback comments left for others.  If i don't like it then i would block.  But I've turned down requests for sizeable discounts in the past only to have the person then purchase at full price, with no subsequent issues to the transaction and all ended well.  However, in the case of 80% and the "pretty please"  garbage  i would block right away.

I do use Best Offer and I still get messaged Offers.

Oddly, these rarely turn into sales while those that go through BO are successful and usually promptly paid.

I ignore all messages of this type. Type being ridiculously low offers.

I don't block anyone except in very rare circumstances. On my primary selling account (13 years old) I have only one entry on my BBL, that was a buyer who attempted feedback extortion and gave me 16 Negs (negs removed by eBay).

"Hello,

Please direct any offers to the best offer button in the listing. If the button is not enabled, then the current price is firm.

Thank you for reaching out."

Then ignore any additional responses. Same thing for "what's the lowest you will take" (aka please negotiate against yourself).

If you don't want to be passive aggressive you can just say "I do not want to give you an 80 percent discount. Please do not send me any other offers." but that kind of directness usually isn't appreciated even if it is warranted.
