"Due to US customs policies, the buyer of this item will need to pay import fees to the shipping carrier prior to delivery."
This banner appear on international sales even if there are no tariffs on particular items. It's simply false, misleading and harmful for sales statement .

I added to all my listings my own banner saying my items are tariffs exampt.

I did something similar in my US store (the Canada store doesn't have lots of US shipping right now). It tells buyers we're using Stallion Express and Canada Post to ship items duties paid. Lots of my items are tariff exempt because of CUSMA, if items are not exempt I am raising prices.

No tarrifs on postage stamps and covers.

This issue is not just for tariff free items. Most shipments to the US are now DDP so any tariff if applicable will be prepaid and the recipient will never have to pay anything on delivery.
I doubt eBay actually understands any of this.

Also items made in the USA are not subject to any tariffs.

how do you add sucha banner? I have added a message in my item description in BOLD to let customers know the banner doesnt apply to my CUSMA registered items

It really is a shame that they are taking a giant sweeping brush to this issue. I went through the trouble of CUSMA registering my items to avoid tariffs and now im basically being told to keep the misleading banner or accept DOUBLE the shipping cost/ time and use the EIS.
Very lazy an approach and bad for business.
I think ebay Canada should perhaps partner with chitchats. They have been around in Canada since 2001 and are very reputable and most of us who ship CUSMA items will use chitchats or stallion express to stay competitive.
UPS, fedex and EIS are nowhere near as competitive as chitchats/ stallionexpress unless you are strictly selling high dollar and very hard to find items. If you are selling smaller/ lower dollar items then EIS/ UPS/ Fedex etc. is a death nail for your business by doubling or trippling shipping costs/ times.

Technically, I did the same - an oversized color message, which looks like a banner. It's placed before the item's description.
But you can add a banner, too by adding a link to your item's description (the banner must be on your private server and you need to know HTML a little bit).

That's basically what I did (in the description, but I didn't make it Bold, it's just part of my TOS).
There is no such info in my .ca listings since a lot of them don't ship to the US. I'm not worrying about not having US sales on the Canadian site, my prices on the Canadian site are even lower to try to attract other customers.

Well, consider that there are about 193 other countries in the world besides Canada and the US and most of them haven’t got off as “lightly” as Canada has when it comes to the Trump Tariffs. Unfortunately, it seems that eBay US hasn’t figured out that Canada is kind of a special case when it comes to the tariffs, and certainly hasn’t figured out how they actually get applied for personal imports.

It applies to sellers from other countries as well. The mail rules apply worldwide, if sent by post the fees have to be paid up front. Other countries are also selling made in US items to the US as well.
Our perspective here is Canada of course, but the banner is false and inaccurate and knee capping sellers around the world.

Can't they AT LEAST put " a buyer located in the USA may have to...."
10-13-2025 09:25 PM
....instead of making it look like other country's buyers are affected.

Can't ebay disable the banner for "informational media" catogories at the very least?!?!?
I had to put a bold "banner" in all my item descriptions to try and tell my customers that dispite what ebay says all my DVD's/CD's etc are tarrif/duty free.

I don’t think the banner shows up if the shipping location used when searching and viewing listings is any country other than the US. The "learn more" link on the banner takes the user to a page that has US-specific information.

That was my point, but you stated it more clearly. Thanks!

The only nuisance banners I keep seeing are 1. improve my handling time, 2. ship with other carriers and the ever popular...3. Have you thought about becoming a Top Rated Seller?!?!?! 🙄
The Essexs said it best when they sang...."Easier said than done".
Think I am off to find my classic LP Wings of Banner on the Run!!!

It appears eBay is big on the concept of banners that are not entirely accurate. In the past there was an additional disclaimer about the amount due was an estimate only. That one no longer appears. A disclaimer does appear with the eBay calculator tool stating that it is an estimate.
Example: UPS Banner
Once the shipping label has been used, the amount due will be automatically deducted from your funds or charged to your on-file payment method in a few days.
As an addendum to the above with UPS and Fedex it has been reported that charges don't actually appear until the item has been delivered. CP is from 2 days to ??? for a timeframe. Either as as noted originally, revised or revised after the fact charge.
Disclaimer: This shipping calculator is intended for informational use only and does not include all potential applicable fees. By using the shipping calculator, you acknowledge that eBay is making no representations or guarantees regarding actual fee and sales amounts and that the results are estimates only.
Issue being if you happen to get dinged for inaccurate charges at a later date there is no accompanying message explaining/breaking down any discrepancy. Something that is a standard business practice everywhere else.
