Belated clawbacks for shipping labels

If I sold an item, bought a shipping label within a few hours from the funds that were pending and well before “we sent your payout”, how does it take eBay 24 days to take the label cost back out of my bank account instead of out of the funds that were pending? It was the first time I bought an eBay label; I usually use Canada Post’s website but in this case eBay was significantly cheaper.
Just wondering if this is the way it usually works?

They will take it from your "available funds" first, if they can't get it there then they will go for your bank acount next.

As far as the delay goes, thats a whole other ball of wax that has been discussed in many posts here.

Canada Post doesn't charge for the 3rd party labels until after the item has been shipped (which eliminates the headache of having to cancel an unused label, etc) and gives Canada Post time to check the actual size and weight and bill the correct amount rather than issue adjustments. Many other couriers do the same. While I do feel it should happen quicker, this is fairly normal.

If it really bothers you, there are other 3rd party companies you can choose from that will charge you immediately and bill you for adjustments later. EasyShip and Shipping Chimp are both good options for (non expedited lite) Canada Post labels, for example. Shipping Chimp also has excellent prices for Purolator. Click Ship has very good UPS and CanPar rates.

@3islanders

They should be showing an option to pay in advance (with your choice of method) of funds being removed if balance is still pending. Usually within 3 or 4 day window. After the window closes they pull immediately by method you have on file. To date, as far as I know, they have started sending Big Eddie to come and collect.....yet!!!

Re: Belated clawbacks for shipping labels

Well, it was about 2 weeks after the item was delivered, so, I'm not sure about that as a reason.  Billing later for adjustments sounds like basically the same thing as what eBay just did.  I'd never heard of EasyShip & Shipping Chimp before seeing them mentioned on eBay a while back.  Don't know if they'd even operate here.  Even regular courier service is a bit of a cr*p shoot (forum won't accept this word, ha!).

You can set up so that where ebay goes next for money is a credit card. Helps protect against bank fees.

Re: Belated clawbacks for shipping labels

I haven't been billed for any eBay labels since December 5th.

Gonna hit hard when these all finally get posted to my account...

I'm missing back to same date.

As a side note created a CP label with snapship on Dec 18. Dropped off and scanned on same day at postal outlet. Charged CC on the 22nd.  Subtotal increased by 1 cent. HST increased by 1 cent. Total + 0.02. Most likely fuel surcharge tinkering?!?

That much at least I guess I could answer.  I've had credit card charges come up a few cents different when buying from Cda Post, vs. what I got on the label when I bought it online.  I think I recall asking at the post office about that and she said yes, it was probably fuel tinkering.  Kinda silly, IMO.

Same here since December 27th, no billing from the post office and I have about ten items delivered.

Re: Belated clawbacks for shipping labels

I had two Canada Post labels finally post to my account on Jan 7. They were originally purchased on Dec 12 and 15th.

Still have an outstanding UPS label from Dec 5th (!), and 6 Canada Post labels printed between Dec 22 and Jan 12 that I haven't been charged for yet.

If eBay label shipments are not billed in 30 days does that mean they are free? 👻 Seems to be when problem started was around  Dec 4/5. I sent one with Snapship close to Xmas. It got charged to cc in 2/3 days no problemo. It would be interesting to confirm if ebay billing is based on day label was created or actual charge thru date. (Due to floating fuel surcharges that can vary during the month.)
