Hi everyone, I've recently become aware of an issue with my account and I'm wondering if it may be affecting others as well. I have noticed that since October 29th, all labels from Canada Post and UPS have been charged at a rate higher than what I was quoted when the label was purchased. The only order which was charged at the quoted label rate was a single order that was shipped via FedEx.
The increased cost is not an adjustment for weight or size as I am quite dilligent, always round up, and I double checked my scale calibration this morning. My biggest concern at this point is that I cannot trust the calculated shipping for either UPS or Canada Post, and it feels like this may be an issue beyond just my account.
If anyone out there has time to spot check their own orders going back the last three weeks and compare their original label purchase price to what was actually charged and respond back to this community post it would be helpful. The more information I can provide to eBay about the scope of the issue, the greater the chance it may get resolved.
I have found one of the quickest ways to check is from the Seller Hub, go to Orders->Shipping Labels. The Label Details column will show the original quoted label cost (clicking on this expands the details to also show the size and weight you entered during purchase), and then clicking on the Order number will show financial details for the order including the actual shipping label cost you were charged under the 'What you earned' section.
Thanks!

No one should ever be seeing sub-$5 Expedited Parcel rates. Even Expedited Lite doesn't go that low - I think the lowest for Expedited Lite is $6.XX once fuel surcharge/taxes are factored in.
The only time Canada Post offered sub-$5 rates was when they were running this promotion earlier this year. It was for anything 500g or less, going within your same local area (e.g. GTA --> GTA; Winnipeg --> Winnipeg; Calgary --> Calgary; etc.). The promotion originally went from Feb 17 to Apr 27, but was then extended until June 25. The promotional rate was $3.50 plus applicable fuel surcharge plus tax, which brought it up to around $4.80 for most people in an HST province.
For some reason eBay is still showing this rate despite the promotion having ended five months ago.
You can test it yourself by opening one of your own small/lightweight (<500g) listings that have domestic calculated Expedited Parcel/Lite shipping and seeing how much it would be to "ship to yourself" - it will probably show between $4.45 and $4.85 depending on the tax in your province. Any labels printed at these rates will almost undoubtedly be followed up with another charge because eBay is calculating them based on a promotion that ended five months ago.
devon@ebay Why is eBay still showing the rates applicable to this promotion that ended in June of 2025? Do they have some unadvertised agreement with Canada Post to continue offering the rates? If that is the case then why are people seeing upcharges, and why was this promotion not communicated to sellers?

The Canada Post billing issues are a major issue that needs to be looked into. Whether or not it's this or Expedited Lite or some other dimensional discrepancy between eBay and Canada Post. It's absolutely ridiculous. If I had to guess, there are thousands of Canadian sellers that are regularly getting upcharged on Canada Post labels and are simply not noticing it. People with consistent sales are likely not regularly auditing their Payment summary in Seller Hub. This problem is a lot more widespread than anyone thinks it is, and eBay isn't doing anything about it because not enough people are complaining (because the majority of people aren't even noticing it in the first place).

Yes.
CP Expedite Lite: Quoted $4.77, charged $4.80
CP Expedite Parcel: Quoted $11.55, charged $13.66
Weights and measurements were all accurate.

Thanks for chiming in, it wasn't until after I'd posted my thread that I saw your similar thread going back to February. I guess my key word searches were not up to snuff!

Known issue. You can find numerous threads here or on Reddit. Expedited lite double charge has been allegedly fixed (from Devon). Expedited rates seem to be back to the regular higher pricing (will have to check when they get billed). As far as UPS goes, they are just scamming you; they will bill you an extra $7 for address correction (like postal code) or just make up fake weights/dimensions surcharge, not really eBay's fault in this case. However, for UPS, eBay can file a case for you to see if UPS will refund.

I haven't bothered disputing the 50-cent to $1 surcharge for fake weights/dimensions. I rarely use UPS, but I had to use it during the last Canada Post strike. I challenged an address correction charge of $7 and received a refund, but I think that was a courtesy gesture. Sometimes, when you chat with support and get a really, really nice agent, they will refund/credit you on the spot, no questions asked. It's really rare, but it's worth trying (still time-consuming). At least, with UPS, eBay will file a dispute on your behalf and send it to UPS. This is not possible with Canada Post for some reason. eBay will tell you to talk to Canada Post, and Canada Post will tell you to take it up with eBay, making you run in a circle.
