There's still 80% of the 1st world population out there for us to trade with (and 96% of the total world population). US buyers will still pay for hard to find items. It will certainly hurt Canadian small businesses more than those from other countries, but it's also an opportunity to expand trade worldwide for those who currently don't.

Mine too. News is spreading quickly through my network of people involved in my little coin business on eBay.

I'm away from Aug 17 until Sept 1, I'm going to extend the time away for a few days so I can see what's happening on Sept 1 when I come home. (Kinda wish I could keep selling until this kicks in, but the trip to Greenland is two years in the making, so I'm going to go... I'm taking language lessons to not appear American while visiting, I don't think Americans are very popular there right now).

@sapphyres-designer-jewellery  Just wear lotsa stuff that has our flag on it, that's worked well for us in the past and we'll be using the same tactic in europe this fall.

Re the deminimus, Uggghh - I'm closed here till mid September anyway. I'll see early results from folks shipping experience here.

As I mentioned in "threads gone by" I have a catastrophic plan in place if it becomes untenable to sell to the US anymore. I'm fine to send US folks stuff and have folks complain, but if it gets expensive in terms of time, $$$ with refused shipments etc, the catestrophic plan allows me to drop the .COM stuff, retain the .CA stuff here and block US folks from the .CA stuff (theoretically the .COM will "move" to another site where I can block sales to the US).

Time will tell, things change nearly daily, oftentimes what looks untenable in advance doesn't turn out to be so bad, hopefully that's the case here.

I guess I will move all CD's made in Canada and Europe Japan to .ca and move my CD's made in the US to .com.  Then I will remove shipping to the US on .ca until ???   I thought I had more time to do this 2027 vs next month.  Jezz.  Anyone know when he is going to die?

I determine that it is necessary and appropriate to suspend duty-free de minimis treatment under 19 U.S.C. 1321(a)(2)(C) for certain Canadian goods to deal with the emergency declared in Executive Order 14193, as amended.  In my judgment, this suspension is necessary and appropriate to ensure that the tariffs imposed by Executive Order 14193, as amended, are effective in addressing the emergency declared in Executive Order 14193 and that the purpose of this action and other actions to address the emergency declared in Executive Order 14193 is not undermined.  For example, many shippers go to great lengths to evade law enforcement and hide illicit substances in imports that go through international commerce.  These shippers conceal the true contents of shipments sent to the United States through deceptive shipping practices.  Some of the techniques employed by these shippers to conceal the true contents of the shipments, the identity of the distributors, and the country of origin of the imports include the use of re-shippers in the United States, false invoices, fraudulent postage, and deceptive packaging.  The risks of evasion, deception, and illicit-drug importation are particularly high for low-value articles that have been eligible for duty-free de minimis treatment.

This part of the story has me confused:

"Goods shipped through the postal system will face one of two tariffs: either an "ad valorem duty" equal to the effective tariff rate of the package's country of origin or, for six months, a specific tariff of $80 US to $200 US depending on the country of origin's tariff rate."....Is it whichever is lower??...higher???

Hopefully eBay.ca will soon make it possible for sellers to offer to US buyers only our made-in-USA items.

The word "certain" is used 3 times in the EO (Canada, Mexico, China) it also appears in the Definitions but that doesn't provide much clarity.

Fortunately it's Greenland. I speak Swedish which on a basic level is similar to Danish when spoken, so I can probably get by without ever having to speak English... my travel companion though only speaks English. We got some Canadian flag pins for our lapels.

I think I'm going to have to step away and think about what's happening to feel better about dealing with it when I get back. I've been reading the forum about Canada Post shipments being delayed and getting returned, and thanked my lucky stars I could use Stallion and clear items through Customs quickly. That's going to go away when de minimis does, and I don't imagine Stallion will stay in business for very long after that.

I've gone through my roladex of people to call and share this news with, what I've been saying is that all of us (myself and most of the forum it seems) have been thinking we have two years to figure everything out and maybe something will change, a lot can happen in two years. I came home from work today and got onto the forum before I even shipped today's orders, and was assaulted with the latest news. I feel as bad as if I'd just lost a job I've had for a long time (but kind of did... been selling since 2012, if I can't sell anymore that's basically like losing my job).

I would not survive. I shipped 5 items today - 4 to the US, 1 to France.

I sell antique and vintage stuff made in Germany, UK, France, Italy and the US. Nothing from China.

What??? Those would be the countries with even higher customs fees and taxes that cost a small fortune to ship to? Or maybe the EU countries that require paid registration to ship to. Yeah, I'll get right on that.

It really will depend on what you sell. I'm more focused on pop culture items that have an interest to North American buyers. For many sellers this rest of the world stuff is a fairy tale.

The impression I'm getting is that it would be the rate Trump imposes on each country, with a temporary optional fixed rate fee per package (which might be cheaper for higher value things).

The USA can't seem to process all the packages they're getting right now just from the China changes. I'm not sure what they think is going to happen when EVERY package has to be individually assessed. I'm betting with the backlog it'll create, there's going to be a lot of US companies that can't get stock and parts through customs at all and will go out of business
