Type 11 entry is still avaiable for orders under $2500. It is informal, I believe. The transportation company would just be required to collect. I think it might be possible to consolidate orders to US warehouse and unpack once over border.

"Unpacking" may be considered as "working in the US" and not permitted by immigration when you try to cross.

I think anything that draws attention and unncessary scrutiny (like frequent border crossings) is a bad idea, but you could consolidate and hire someone to unpack/repack, but most of us small businesses don't have enough sales to cover this expense.

I feel bad for Chit Chats and Stallion as most of their business was shipping to the US and internationally.   I don't know if they will survive for the next few years.

That's one thing that was dawning on me today... I have a good deal with shipping to the UK (it's around the same price as shipping to the US with Stallion for the things I sell), however if Stallion goes under because of the US shipment issue, then the NL Post option with Stallion also goes away.

For the rest, it's maybe time to find "new" markets or "new "hobbies. "

It's not the 35% tariff (or however much) that will kill our businesses as much as the ridiculous package fee they're talking about assessing on low value shipments. If each package will cost $80+ USD for the importer, no one will bother with any cheap stuff and all of them will be finding new hobbies instead of collecting.

I have many customers on the US that collect Canadian tokens and coins, and these customers will probably find something else to do with their time if they can't get packages sent from international locations (and some of what I sell is uncommon and not available in the US).

That won't work.

The problem is by "upping" the prices for the American customers to include the tariffs, you Up the prices for the canadian market too. There is no way to fix a price for a specific country on eBay.

I refuse to charge more to my canadian customers because of americans. Canadian customers don't have to pay for this.

Unless eBay allows us to charge different prices to different countries, I will not pay their tariffs from my pocket.

The only way would be by using the Handling fees, but then, it's handling fees for all international (with the current Business policies configuration). We cannot set a percent, only a fixed amount. We cannot set handling fees specific to countries. We then penalize everyone in the world (except canadians) because of a single country... Which I also refuse to do.

I actually sell items for less on this store than on the US store... I'm trying to give my Canadian customers a break. US buyers can still buy from the Canadian store, but most don't seem to be doing that.

ChitChats just announced their last run for de minimis will be August 28.

Link to the blog?

I haven't been getting the emails from Chit Chats recently, I think since I haven't used their services in over a year they stopped sending me emails.

Stallion has said nothing so far. I told the agent at my local Stallion Branch and she knew nothing about it. I told her to search online with the computer to read on it, because customers today will be asking.

Re: De Minimis to end globally August 29 2025 as per executive order

You're referring to the basic international carrier bond

"To ensure remittance of duties in accordance with this order, and to assure compliance with other legal requirements, CBP is authorized to require a basic importation and entry bond as described in 19 C.F.R. 113.62 for informal entries valued at or less than $2,500.  Any carrier that transports international postal shipments to the United States, by any mode of transportation, must have an international carrier bond as described in 19 C.F.R. 113.64 to ensure payment of the duties described in section 3 of this order.  CBP is authorized to ensure that the international carrier bonds required by this subsection are sufficient to account for the duties described in section 3 of this order"

19 C.F.R. 113.62 f -https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-19/chapter-I/part-113/subpart-G/section-113.6

"Agreement to Pay Penalties, Duties, Taxes, and Other Charges"

For shippers, a  $150,000 bond may cost $2,500 annually. It is usually 1-2%. So third party shippers like Chitchat, Stallion and etc,. should be able to faciliate a informal entry and just collect duties + file a manifest.

I think there is still hope.

Re: De Minimis to end globally August 29 2025 as per executive order

Definitely can't do the unpacking yourself. But places like Stallion, have a Buffalo branch with US employees and offer this service for their 3PL service. DYK already opens and checks each package on the Canadian side, so I don't see why they couldn't do this on the US side with 1 extra employee. IMO I think they'll consolidate orders from different ppl with a ship to address to their US warehouse, and keep it below $2500. Spread the costs and then just charge duties. IMakes the most sense

Thanks. I'll have to go reading there for the latest, seems like they don't email me anymore.

It looks like they're offering a DDP solution starting Aug 29. I'll be home Sept 1, so that should be underway and some feedback here on how it's working (since I assume some people in the forum will use that, how that works for receiving money from the customer is the complicated part).

I was thinking if I did DDP, I could raise prices to include the tariff. But with the tariff changing hourly it's hard to keep up, and it's a lot of work to go and change prices all the time. I sell silver and I have to change prices when silver prices fluctuate (to be able to keep making sales and get the most i can for each silver coin). Keeping up on that is difficult enough, and that's only a few percentage points every couple of weeks or so... The tariffs are erratic at best, so trying to keep up on the latest rate to charge appropriate is pretty difficult.

When Aug 11 comes, I'm going to change item location to Canada, that will give me more options for shipping (and help if there's a problem with a buyer being assessed tariffs on their order).

Lots to figure out.

Stallion has not been checking all the packages (as far as I know), they vetted their customers to decide whose package is going to be checked. It depends on what's being shipped and what history you have with Stallion on shipping things (for instance if you were doing tshirts made in China in the preceding months when COO was required but didn't matter), they will check your packages when all of a sudden the COO has changed.

Appreciate the kind words.  This will kill thousands of Canadian sellers. I have already switched many items to my local marketplace and business is fantastic. I'm sensing local will be the big opportunity this fall and Christmas season. And to a certain degree it really isn't eBay's fault. And I still love selling to fellow Canadians.

The marketplace (if you mean the FB one) is not for everyone. Home insurance won't cover me if people are coming to my house to pick stuff up. I have a friend who lives in an apartment and people ring him to come down to the foyer. That's fine because the foyer is not his private space that he's responsible for.

I agree Marketplace much like eBay isn't for everyone. Being a former flea market vendor for 30 years gives me great insight into what moves in my region.

At some point in the past I used to do local market sales for jewellery... but then my local market got flooded with fakes and mass produced stuff and it ceased to be a "crafters market". Those of us making our own jewellery left to sell elsewhere. Sadly sales are not good for jewellery at all, but I am now visually impaired so it's unlikely any new jewellery will be made. Focusing on coins and stamps which I only need to take good photos of so I can see them on my computer screen for doing listings.

There's too much doom and gloom in this thread. Remember this can turn out to be a nothing burger. TACO has threatened to desolve the de minimis earlier in the year and nothing came of it.

I would suggest that sellers operate as normal and adjust your listings and selling strategy after the deadline if needed. The orange dumba*s needs to distract from the Epstein stiuation.

Re: De Minimis to end globally August 29 2025 as per executive order

Am I correct in assuming goods that fall within the CUSMA agreement will be unaffected? I sell mostly handmade in Canada items of value between $19-100 on avg for most of my orders. I know de minimis is probably going away or being changed but my products are made in Canada 100% I know trump invoked the emergency powers act blah blah blah but he did carve out an exemption for items compliant with the USMCA. Am I on the right page with this?

You'd have to look up what's required to be able to claim CUSMA compliance. I'd imagine there's probably a mountain of paperwork, which if you're selling one-off items, would probably need to be completed for each item.

I thought you just had to claim its origin is North American and have the “made in Canada “ sticker applied to the item and then fill out the tariff code and business location as normal.

What am I missing?

He said he would end it a later date then decided all of a sudden to end it August 29, 2025 overruling Congress.

You'd have to read up on it, but when dealing with governments nothing is usually that simple.
