Has anyone participated eBay Co-Funded Coupon Program?

I just received an email from ebay about the Co-Funded Coupon Program. It doesn't sound good for sellers at all. It seems the program has existed since last year already. Has anyone experienced it? How was it? Also, this isn't something I have to opt out of like EIS, right? Thanks in advance.

Contrary to that what I've heard which is heresy, eBay is doing the OPPOSITE of  considering AI integration allowing consumers to "purchase merchandise and compete the transaction all within the chatbot apps."

According to the rumour mill, eBay is dead against this integration because it would render their Promoted Listings Campaigns redundant. You can find out why here;

Will eBay Ban AI Bots From The Site? Selling On eBay Podcast Convo Begins At 11:10

Maybe eBay isn't prepared to pay the fees that ChatGPT etc are going to be charging for this service?

It's unclear how the chatbots will evolve, but they will for sure monetize the millions of users they have already acquired. If only ebay had developed an accurate catologue, that would be something valuable that they could bring to the table.

Re: Has anyone participated eBay Co-Funded Coupon Program?

There's one big thing with these co-funded coupon offers that it doesn't look like eBay made entirely clear in the announcement post here in the community that sellers need to be aware of, though it may be in the fine print of the contracts.

https://community.ebay.ca/t5/Announcements/eBay-Co-Funded-Coupon-Program-Seller-Participation-Notice...

That announcement says you as the seller receive the full amount of the order and are invoiced for your portion of the discount later.

What it doesn't explicitly say is that means you pay the FVF and any Promoted Listings General ad fee (if applicable) on the full amount - it is not prorated or partially credited after the fact (assuming it works the same in Canada as it does for the US.)

Also, eBay does not provide any kind of reporting or breakdown of how they calculate the amount owed for your portion, it is simply invoiced as one lump sum for you to pay with no way to track how many/which orders had the discount applied or measure return on investment.

I've spoken to many US sellers who tried it the first time they were invited to participate in one of these co-funded offerings and most of them say they didn't notice any significant sales lift and wouldn't do it again.

In my opinion, most sellers would likely be better off simply running their own individual markdown sales where they can better track the performance and only pay fees on the discounted total sale amount.

Re: Has anyone participated eBay Co-Funded Coupon Program?

From listiening to the podcast it would seem it's more about the loss of Promoted listing fees eB|ay would incur if they allow AI bots to find items on the platform.

My understanding from the podcast (linked below for those who are just tuning in) is if a buyer uses AI to locate an item from outside the platform it would negate the platform's need to promote it externally.

Both hosts on that podcast are sellers directly involved with eBay dot com.  They both run eBay meetups. Shari won the $10K eBay prize for top entrepreneur. It would seem the news is reliable..

If a buyer uses AI to locate a specific widget should a platform have the latitude to still charge a PL fee?

This will end badly one way or another for sellers. May be eBay will come up with "eBAY AI Yi Yi Yi Yiii!" instead of Terapeak...

I agree with you about the co funding of coupons.

That being said I wouldn't mind discussing eBay Special Offers for buyers via the co funding of freight to the EU and Australia.

Re: Has anyone participated eBay Co-Funded Coupon Program?

I got the invite as well, but as many other sellers have said, I have no intention of giving up more of the sales price to ebay, they already take a signficant amount of a cut, and when there's an issue (not related specifically to the co funded program), ebay is impossible to deal with fairly.  They simply tell me they'll escalate it, and when they do I get a generic (likely AI or cut and paste) response from 'customer service'.  Ebay is a business for many folks, for me its a hobby, and I'm seeing Ebay seems to be forcing sellers into adhering to what I describe as unfair practises.  That doesn't mean all of the ebay policy is bad, but like many others, as a Canadian seller, I ship using letter mail for items under around $20.  I reach out to the buyer and let them know that the ebay estimated time of delivery is not correct (its really agressive) and let them know I can offer parcel with tracking at a small price increase, but acknowledge its their decision.  Well, I get some requests for items not received, and 99% of those requests that I get are from new accounts often admitting the address is wrong. (yes I know I should ship parcel, but in Canada thats a huge cost difference which simply means I wouldn't sell the item with a high shipping cost attached, ebay knows this as well and will never stop allowing lettermail as they would have sales collapse under $30-$40 transactions, but they certainly won't treat the sellers with the respect they deserve when it comes to risk....).  I don't get my item back, its likely lost in mail, and ebay forces a refund.  I've spoken with ebay customer service on this many times, and they just tell me to ship it parcel, and tell me the address they provided me for the sale was supplied by the buyer, but won't take the responsibility for providing a correct address, seems like a simple task where they go and do additional confirmation on addresses so they provide the correct address to the sellers). Maybe allow sellers to make the call for themselves, new accounts under XX of a rating have to buy using parcel.    Again, its always new users making these claims.  These co-funded programs considering how ebay treats me as a seller make my decision easy, they already take a big fee from me, they can fund their own programs, I'm not interested in participating. I'm not sure how much longer I'll continue selling on this platform either, its become less desirable with few protections.  I'm not signing up, I'll monitor it but the details are not well promoted and I can't log into the link they sent as it brings me to a .com address.

Something else that is in the midst of being rolled out on com. Unsure if has hit ca yet. Wasn't able to find with a few random searches. As OP and Valueadded stated just another way to make sure ANY listing that is promoted gets purchased has the extra fees attached. Even if it wasn't by way of a DIRECT click.

Harkens back to the old expression about a tree falling in the forest....If a listing sells and someone clicked on a similar type item doing a random search is it/should it still a promoted sale???

@lotzofuniquegoodies  the .ca marketing terms were updated with pretty much the same language as for .com, including references to "item compare", so yes I expect if you aren't seeing it already, you will be soon.

@valueaddedresource

It was a good guess that would also eventually appear on ca.As of late anything rolled out on com, it is just a matter of time as to the when and how it will mysteriously appear/arrive on ca.  No guarantees it will function exactly the same, get the same testing or if it will mirror the features. As for being included in marketing terms not all buyers and sellers have those memorized or have interpreted the same way. (With eBay it is VERY IMPORTANT to keep up to date but next to impossible to complete that task.) Like the help pages those pages SHOULD all be dated with any major ammendments clearly noted. It really can all depend on how a user searches and the results they will see. (2 similar searches can bring up dissimilar results.) Similar to speaking to CS or FB/Twitter for help.
