The Canada Post tracking hasn’t updated for days, so I checked the tracking info on eBay. That’s when I realized the package has already been rerouted to the U.S. through DHL. I’ve never experienced this before. What’s strange is that eBay is providing very detailed tracking information, including the DHL tracking number.
From what I understand, when things go wrong in this situation, I could actually lose more money than usual. In the past, when I shipped an item to a forwarding address, my responsibility ended once it arrived there. Now eBay is extending that responsibility beyond what I need to.
Why is eBay enabling this kind of rerouting? WTH

Yeah, that’s exactly it. eBay tracking shows “Item arrived at hub,” but instead of being marked as delivered, the tracking suddenly switched over to DHL.
Have you had any issues with yours? Mine is made in China, so I have a feeling something is definitely going to happen.
There's no issues at all. You're only responsible for getting the item to the hub. After that, your responsibility ends. If the buyer wants to return the item or has issues with it, eBay deals with it themselves. You still keep the sale. You can read up about it here:

You’ve dropped us into the middle of the story here. Some introductory details would help us figure this out.
Is the item being handled by eBay International Shipping? If not, what was the shipping method stated in your listing? Is the item’s final destination supposed to be in the United States? Are you comfortable with sharing a screenshot of the tracking so far?
"En route with DHL" says it all. The listing was for canada only. It's domestic shipping with canada post, and the destination address is toronto. As I said, I understand how forwarding addresses work, but we’re only supposed to be responsible for the address listed in the order details, not the buyer’s actual home address.
If those questions are a bit much, just consider this last one: Why are you checking the tracking for this item so frequently?
This question is so weird. Don’t you pay attention to the delivery status when it’s already past the delivery date but hasn’t been delivered yet?

Was the postal code L5J 0B8? If so, this is the address used for eBay International Shipping.

Your order was through EIS program and you sent your item to the EIS hub. Your part is done.
Canada Post tracking for parcels sent to the EIS hub will not show a delivered status when it gets to the hub. The tracking on Canada Post will remain in a delayed and 'Expected delivery date updated' status.

This question is so weird. Don’t you pay attention to the delivery status when it’s already past the delivery date but hasn’t been delivered yet?
No.
I assume that everything is fine unless the buyer complains.
Then if the last estimated date for delivery has not passed, I give the buyer that date.
If that date has passed, I ask that the buyer give it to Monday or Friday (depending on the day of the complaint).
Now I may look at the tracking.
If the buyer files a Claim, I put the tracking number into the Claim.
EBay probably already has that information, but they want the seller to show they are involved.
If I lose the Claim, I refund.

That's purely you, not me. I don't know where you are from, in canada, we say, don't assume anything since it makes an ass out of u and me. 😃

This sounds too good to be true. I think it’s only a matter of time before bad sellers and buyers start taking advantage of it and ruin it for everyone.

Talking about a glass half-empty person...
I am no eBay fanboy myself, but I have to say that, so far, eIS Canada has allowed me to sell a few items to US sellers, which otherwise wouldn't have happened.
The principle is as simple as it can be. eIS handles all the shipping and delivery process to the seller in the USA. You just need to worry about to get it safely to their Mississauga location. THAT'S IT.

Presumably those people would be removed from the program, although I have some doubts most of their accounts would be in good enough standing to qualify for the program in the first place. The eIS program has been in place in both the USA and UK for a long time now. If there were major issues with it, they wouldn't still offer it.
