Seller's question on tariff

Usually, it is the buyers who pay the custom fee upon receiving the items. Now effective Aug 29th, what exactly as a seller, I need to update my listing assuming this impacts shipping only to USA & not to other countries outside Canada? I had a recent buyer ordered (1 Bluray movie) from US & when I went to my canada post, they asked me to fill some online form, then bring that QR code to ship it further and i just came back without shipping the item. Does it mean that I need to pay some Tariff online first before shipping to US? And, for future items, taking that tafiff as baseline, i add to my listing price to recover money back from buyers?

Re: Seller's question on tariff

Yes, if you are shipping to the US via Canada Post (and most other carriers) the tariffs must be paid in advance.

FYI - If you are wanting to add the tariff costs to what the buyer pays you should add it to the shipping charge rather than the item price. If it's added to the item you will incur more eBay fees, if you add it to the shipping charge you will not as eBay fees are based on the lowest of what you charge the US buyer or what you charge for a domestic sale. In most cases the domestic shipping will be cheaper and thus fees will be lower.
