Shipping to USA from Canada with Tarrifs

I have put it off until i did some research on it and now seems you have to put a code for every item you are sending from Canada to USA. (Using Chichats)

Sending 1 hockey card but being in plastic holder have to have 2 HTS CODES and have to fill out 2 times the  item discription area and where manufactured.

One HTS code for the card

One HTS code for the plastic holder

After all filled in and go to check out to select method of shippment

You get a TARRIF Fee a Shipment Items Fee a Merchandise Processing Fee

Fees relate to value of items.

Now though if i just put Merchandise as HOCKEY CARD with out filling one for the plastic holder then dont get TARRIF Fee.

Has any one come across to this and what have you done when sending sports card or pokemon card in hard plastic do you just put Sport Card with HTS Code 4911.99.60.00 as i was given this code for sports cards but if also stating the plastc holder have to put different HTS Code 3926.90.48.00

With all this stuff happening think have to really think it over if i want to ship to USA as it just adds costs to ship thus be passed  down to buyer.

Any thoughts and any one experienced this with shipping using Chichats

Personally, I wouldn't even mention the toploader. It's just packaging. Are you also declaring the envelope you are mailing the card in? It would be a different story if you were selling toploaders, but you're selling a card. I would be very surprised if they were that nitpicky.

I am not going to comment on whether the toploader needs to be claimed as separate item, but if you're concerned about the toploader you could place the card between two pieces of cardboard. Or, you could buy "shipping shields". For lower end cards that are going PWE, eBay also sells envelopes on the Canadian Shipping supply store.

If you're using Chit Chats, you should contact them directly and ask them. They should be able to guide you on whether the toploader poses a problem.

Re: Shipping to USA from Canada with Tarrifs

Kinda off topic question here:
Is there a specific type of item that can be shipped from Canada to the US that doesn't require tariffs or duties paid?
Say Canadian and USA made products?
Thanks

In theory, Canadian and Mexican products that qualify for CUSMA (if they have all the CUSMA paperwork) and USA items shouldn't have tariffs or duty.  That's in theory. Even then, they might either require a Zonos number or a clearing fee from a courier. If they're made of any of the specific products Trump applied special tariffs to (like aluminum), they also may not qualify (not sure).

As someone who has sold thousands of cards (not so much the last few years) when I look at what's happening if you have cards over $50 it's probably worth the extra time. But the small stuff under $20 I wouldn't waste my time on. I think a better idea is to lot out the smaller stuff to make $50 or $100 dollar bundles. The age of low value sales is over, too much work for very little profit.

Maybe need a third tariff code for the plastic sleeve and while we're at it the bubble envelope as well? This is peak nonsense if this is the case.

I don't worry about tariffs for packaging (coin holders, cards stamps are mounted on, sleeves banknotes are put in, ziplock bags merchandise is packaged in).

I just put the tariff code and description of the main thing (a coin, and I attach some kind of proof of where it was made if it's not something obvious, like a Canada coin made in Canada).

Re: Shipping to USA from Canada with Tarrifs

I dont know. I had a couple that went through as lettermail Canada post to USA. it came back as return to sender. " custom declaration+ zonos Duties required" anyone else having to deal with this bs? or was it just unlikely.

It was a batch of 3 orders being sent back.

International LetterPost cannot be used to send "goods" aka merchandise, it has been against Canada Post policy for 20 years. Except for occasional enforcement binges many sellers have been able to use LetterPost successfully but that has all changed especially since the end of the de minimis exemption.

It's not "bs", it's the rules. You've never been allowed to send goods via International Letterpost. If they haven't returned anything to you before this then you've been very lucky.

I see you sell trading cards - you might be able to "sneak" them through customs if you just wrap them in a piece of paper and ship them in a plain white envelope. But as soon as you add a bubble mailer, or make them rigid (i.e. add a toploader) then that's a dead giveaway that they contain something of value and need to be sent as a parcel with a customs declaration.

As of late decided to try ship to USA and seems going back to not ship to USA

Reasons as of late from 12 packages sent to USA  2 have gone missing and then 2 others arrived in nice time manner and then get this about 3 weeks later buyers get a bill from UPS of some kind of handling fee from waiting to cross boarder of some sort fee. Buyers were not happy but the ate the cost, but on my end had no clue on the issue nor did Ebay try to explain why reason for that costs and if so why was it not pre shown on Ebay before buyer made purchase and paid. This kind of stuff now happining is turning people away from buying and shipping both ways. I suspect that now with all information of what is being sent in a package has higher chance of being stolen, plus with all the details on the front of the package/parcel for customs/tarriffs purpose is a give away for item to go missing. Goe are the days where packages were sent more descrtely of what was inside.

"all the details on the front of the package/parcel for customs/tarriffs purpose "....

Sellers were always to use honesty> accurately and correctly declare the contents of the package being sent to the USA...Only now the packages are being assessed for the Trump Tariffs and there are processing fees, extra costs involved for packages being sent to the USA >But that is what sellers agree to IF they choose to ship to the USA...Those are the "consquences" for aiding & abetting a felon and his corrupt USA Gov't.

I wouldn't bother with USA sales at this point. The Trump administration is fraying like a cheap suit. From economic troubles, rising costs, Epstein crawling up his backside and Supreme Court decisions patience is more important than ever. It may take a few years to sort out but it'll get better.

You sell mostly Sports cards at a quick glance,  just use Canada Post and Zonos. Its $0 tariff for sports cards and you can figure out what the rate is on the Canada Post site and its always the same with in like 50cents depending on fuel surcharge. This will be the best way as no additional costs when the buyer recieves it. You don't need manufacturing info etc like cross border companies, you take a picture of the item on the Zonos app it does its thing, you update info to be correct and move along.
