I was reading this article on Ebay and it states that as of January 2025, anyone with over 30 sales will have to provide a SIN number.
https://www.ebay.ca/help/account/regulatory/sales-reporting/canada-digital-sales-reporting?id=5476#s...
It seems like quite a drastic update and I'm surprised more people haven't been talking about it.

My sentiments exactly.

Your trust is misplaced, CRA has been hacked on multiple occasions and has given up tens of thousands of SIN's
CRA can try to come after me with a $500 fine... good luck with that. Sounds like scare tactics to me.
Screw you eBay. Ask for something reasonable to identify me through CRA and you can have it, but you're not legally entitled to my SIN number, nor will you ever get it. I'll close my account before that will ever happen!!!
Better close your account (or stop selling), eBay is require by law (Federal Legislation) to obtain your SIN.
You can avoid giving up your SIN if you are operating as a Corporation, in that case a Business Number is acceptable

Well-- sorta.
You have to be registered to collect GST, and usually provincial tax as well.
You do pay sales tax at purchase, or give your supplier your GST registration number.
If you pay sales tax at purchase, you can use that as a deduction.
It's more complicated than that, but I'll leave it to the accountants, tax experts, and bookkeepers for more detail.

I believed it's an optional decision to disclose your SIN, ie, credit applications etc?
It is in some instances, but this isn’t one of them.

Getting a bit fed up of all this money grabbing from the little guy... why don't you all get your own house in order, how many billions does our government owe?
When you file your income tax return, you acknowledge that you've declared your income from all sources. This is nothing new. Maybe the government's debt would be lower if we all paid our taxes. Or maybe we'd pay less in taxes.

and as I posted at the beginning of this thread: "nothing I shall ever have to worry about!"
and it is still Nothing I shall ever have to worry about!!....it's been years since I have had 30+ sales from eBay!....(2025 has yielded a grand total of 7 sales ...less than $100)....

And to your bank.
And to your employer.
And to your stock broker.
Anywhere you are likely to be getting an income you may be required to give your SIN.

Also not fair for those that have been self-reporting eBay income all along.
Those other cars were going just as fast as I was. Why was I the only one pulled over?
