U.S. President Donald Trump announced he is breaking off trade talks with Canada after learning the Canadian Government is going through with a Digital Services Tax that will apply to American businesses.
We'll know in about a week what percentage of tariffs will be applied.
Batten down the hatches everyone, we're in for rough seas.

Back to the subject at hand, talks have resumed as the DST has been effectively K-O'ed. Of course, the White House is trump-eting this as a big win and that Canada caved, but that seems to be a short-term view. The long-term view is that Canada is working with other countries on an international version of this, so this move might be viewed as a pawn sacrifice in a big chess game.

It's OK ... we caved in again to Trumps rhetoric on this.
Isn't it wierd how one guy can say something stupid and the whole world goes wonky?
Does this remind you of any others in history who were able to do this?

I think the day will come when the US comes crawling back to the world, asking forgiveness. Trump has been in office less than six months and the US is about to enter a mild recession. Trump was handed a decent economy and in less than half a year has managed to trash it. And alienate all the friends and allies of the United States in the process.
Now that the Big Beautiful Bill has passed that is going to make things a lot worse in the US. Huge billionaire and corporate tax breaks , minor tax breaks for everyone else and nowhere near enough incoming revenue to pay for it all. US national debt will soar to new heights. And the whole world is p'd off at Trump (except for North Korea and maybe Russia). In time new trade partners will be developed, new supply chains set up and the US may find themselves on the outside looking in for decades to come.
