Anyone else have problems lately with packages being returned to sender? I had one that cleared customs in Chicago went to Texas which is the delivery state and then sent back. Had another this week with the m=buyers address blacked out and a RTS on the box. What's going on?

Re: USA packages being returned

@vintage_america  Some questions about your RTS packages if you don't mind:

When you use 'Canada Post', are they Expedited or Tracked Packet - USA, dropped off at a post office?

On the ones that get sent back, where does the usps.com US tracking end?  Do they clear customs in Chicago, and then no updates, or have they made it further than Chicago and then come back?

Did they come back with the destination address black markered out?  Or any other stickers that don't make sense?

Were these from back in June, or spread out until recently?

Have you sent non-China the same way without issues?

Re: USA packages being returned

I purchase the labels on eBay with Canada Post Tracked USA.
I put COO China and HS code on the customs part. Then drop off at post office.

This is where it gets weird. Tracking shows it gets to Customs in Chicago ILS and sorted through to USPS. Around 4 days later it says ‘recipient not located at address provided. Returned to sender’.

And that is the weird part. It’s obviously not a question of a wrong address. Or even buyer rejecting item. I believe it is that Customs or USPS needs buyer contact info in order to charge tariffs before delivering and that without it they just return it.

Either that or they’re just using that as a blanket reason for returning.

The address is blacked out with RTS (return to sender). The zip code it got to is always the same (somewhere in Illinois) and nowhere near the buyer’s state.

So it could be that USPS is the one sending them back and not customs.

I’ve called both. They both blame each other.

Buyers all claimed they never got a notification of tariff owing OR the package.

Re: USA packages being returned

Have you actually had a customer have a problem with their order? I haven't and have shipped a significant number of properly declared COO China items to the US via the Post Office.

Why worry about a theoretical problem until you actually experience a problem? I am going to assume that nothing is going to change until I actually have a problem . I had so much angst about the COO China stuff at first, informing customers, losing sales, then just decided to F it and ship. NOT A SINGLE CUSTOMER has been charged and not a single parcel has been held up/returned. Nothing has, in reality, changed yet. Most of the items were in the $200-$500 range, and weighing 5-15kg.

ANYONE else with a different story?

All of the reports of items being refused by customs are coming out of the Chicago ISC.

You're in BC so there is minimal risk to you, and it's not surprising that you haven't had any issues.
