Further to @john_koenig99 ... the value of $750 must include all shipping costs and taxes. IE $650 as example price of the widget*.... AKA kitchen sink... , $60 shipping plus $40 in taxes would meet the threshold of $750 requiring a signature.

I'm not sure if the introduction of duty/processing fees and border costs are now to be added in there as well.

Be sure to read the link sent by @lotzofuniquegoodies which should cover the tariff question or maybe someone else could chime in with that info for the rest of us.

(* re "kitchen sink" ...just noticed your handle is "widget"..  🙂

I have used Signature Confirmation when I felt nervous about a sale.

And it is very very cheap insurance.

The buyer has to sign for the shipment, which to my mind makes them more aware that others (the postie or the counter clerk) know that they did get the item.

But I sell it to the customer by letting them know that I have added this as extra protection against porch pirates and that their Precious will not be left out where just anyone can grab it.

Also worth noting - if you're sending domestically with Canada Post, anyway - that a signature is automatically added if you require $200+ insurance coverage. So the $750 threshold is a moot point in that case.

When I have mentioned this on the American boards, both buyers and sellers have hissyfits.

Apparently the most horrible terrible no-good very bad thing we can do is force FORCE FORCE the buyer to get off their fat badonka donk and actually go to the Post Office for their package.

It's only open six days a week and ten hours a day!

Terrible.

You're not alone. I do that too sometimes... I let the buyer know usually in the listing particualrily for vintage cymbals with something like "Sig may be reqd". I then also send a note at the time of shipping so they know ahead of time. Never had an issue.
