eBay International Shipping Canadian Hub

I sold something recently that someone purchased from Poland. I sent the items to the shipping hub in Mississauga. Everything went smoothly and was super happy with the service.

So, now I sold something to someone in the United States. When I wanted to print off the shipping label, Canada Post wasn't an option - only FedEX and UPS. I was under the impression that with this International Shipping that the United States is also included?? That you ship it to the Hub and they take care of the rest?

Anyhow, I got so frustrated, that I cancelled the order to the United States just to save me the headache of all the paperwork, etc.

Can anyone confirm if the US falls under the International Shipping, or, are we responsible for all the paperwork etc. ? Is there somewhere I can turn off "shipping to the United States"? I looked all over and could not find it.

Re: eBay International Shipping Canadian Hub

I've sold a couple of items already to buyers in the US, via eIS in Mississauga. In both cases, I shipped them there through Canada Post.

It is quite strange indeed that you didn't get the option to buy the label from them.

Most likely, you left your old USA shipping option, and the buyer selected that because it was cheaper than eIS. Yeah, eBay disabled all the USA CP labels. You have to get them somewhere else.

Re: eBay International Shipping Canadian Hub

Looks to me like your good to go on EIS. What was the item? May it's not acceptable for EIS like a ton of my stuff...  EIS categories are really messed up.

eBay: "Our item exclusions may include items that, while not wholly restricted, require additional hurdles for border clearance in our system that we cannot currently support. It can also vary for the same item based on the origin and destination country. If you think there may be a listing where this is applied incorrectly, I’d recommend flagging it to [email protected]."

Your G&R shirt ships to Orlando for $42.04 shipping and $20.16 Import fees via EIS. (which is odd as the shirt is made in the USA) but this is EIS being born... Maybe check your COO for "Made In USA" on that one.

If you can't print an eBay CP label to the hub you can buy one from CP Snapship.  You can send it to the hub anyway you want. You might want to let EIS know your having trouble with CP labels to the hub.

Re: eBay International Shipping Canadian Hub

So far I've had 4 items unable to go via EIS. All 4 should go without restriction.

2 paint color fan decks made in USA. Category is "Home & Garden"

2 Graco paint sprayer parts made in USA.

Auto parts = no problem.  Everything flows in reverse through EIS.  From Devon's explanation one can conclude the EIS backend isn't ready,

Thank you for your reply.

I keep seeing the anagram eIS and EIS. I'm horrible trying to figure out what anagrams stand for. Could you please explain what it stands for?

eIS or EIS  = e(E)Bay International Shipping (Service).

Re: eBay International Shipping Canadian Hub

It sounds like the buyer purchased from a US shipping option that you might have previously set up.  Most likely the buyer choose that option as it was cheaper then the EIS shipping amount.  For Media items I have both options available (one that I set up and then EIS would show up as well for the buyer).  Only around 10 to 20% of my U.S. sales have been through EIS as shipping is much higher.  Ebay has disabled Canada Post labels to the U.S. so you would have to purchase a label elsewhere.  I've been using Snapship without any issues, however you do have to jump through a few hoops with the Zonos Declaration ID and entering the buyers address etc.

I suspect the eIS bot, spider, AI, whatever you want to call it, picked up the term “paint” without any sort of context and disabled the eIS connection on the listings as a precaution.

Re: eBay International Shipping Canadian Hub

Thanks but that was the 1st thought. After many rewrites on the the listings removing "paint" and "gun" and "spray" from all the listings nothing worked.  Everything in this cat is messed up.

All of my fan decks are exhibiting something similar. They are listed as for sale in the US but EIS is not showing shipping or import charges. "Will ship to United States. Read item description or contact seller for shipping options."

The EIS blocks are preset by Category/Sub-Category not at the individual listing level.

This is why things are blocked that shouldn't be while others are not blocked when they should. If one of the latter ends up with EIS they refund the buyer and liquidate the item, seller usually gets to keep the money (while yet another buyer is disappointed because they don't get the item).

This is what I'm seeing now in my account. I just noticed there is no seperate country exclusion list in "Accounts". Pretty sure there was one there at the beginning.

I'm wondering if USA can be added back into the business policies exclusion list providing you don't have any services included that would engage delivery to the USA.

eBay "

What countries can I sell to using eBay International Shipping?

Currently, this program will allow you to ship items to customers anywhere in the United States, European Union, United Kingdom, and Australia. Our team is working to expand this list of countries even further. You can also control which countries you ship to via eBay International Shipping. Once you are enrolled in eBay International Shipping, you can set up and manage your shipping exclusions through your Shipping preferences, Business Policies, or by revising your listings.

Just grasping at straws but I'm pretty sure this is slightly different than a few weeks ago.

Nope. don't do that folks!

I tried adding USA back in to my shipping policy.  Waited for it to say "Updated Successfully"

It notta fizza da breaky ting  so I returned to the staus quo.

I did notice a new "anomaly".  The 1st 2 spayer parts originally listed as "Not available in the United States."

Now they list as "Will ship to United States. Read item description or contact seller for shipping options. (No mention of EIS)

I wonder if this is just the eBay backend tweaking things?

If you're using no other shipping methods to the US aside from eIS, that message will pop up when the item won't ship to the US with eIS.  I'm not familar with the other error message you got, though.  I'm used to the message "Does not ship to [wherever]" when a country is blocked or excluded from shipping, not "Not Available in [Wherever]."

Does eIS not handle these items at all then, or just to the US?  Are sellers from the US who are using eIS able to ship them internationally, or at least is the appearance there in the listings?

If you can't use eIS at all for those items but US sellers can, given that at present eIS Canada seems to be forwarding items to the US before they get sent to their destination country (if it's not the US), I'm wondering if the problem is that for some reason, these items can't be sent to the States with eIS' current carriers?

Re: eBay International Shipping Canadian Hub

Never mind, I got nosy and checked out your listing for the paint sprayer hose.  When I try to change my shipping location from Canada, I see what appears to be most of the usual eIS destinations in the dropdown menu, but the United States isn't on it.  Same with the pole extension.  Both items ship to the UK as a Tracked Packet, though.  I don't see anything about eIS on them, at least to the UK.

I realize that blocks are set at the category/sub-category level, but this doesn't explain why some listings in categories that aren't blocked don't get eIS applied to them.  There must be something else going on here.  I'm getting the sense that eBay is trying more aggressively that with US eIS to avoid having items dead-end at the hub because of unspecified restrictions.

Thanks to all for your input.  I'll add clarifications. Not feeling well today. I will probably dissapear after this. I think this conversation is very important. Hopefully you have all read Devon's pinned thread "

"Ask Us Anything: eBay International Shipping Canada"

Since August my store has excluded the USA. I  made no US sales or any sales because my market is US. During this period my store went dark on dot com. Nothing came up in searches. My repeat customers thought I closed shop.  I understand eBay ghosting me if I didn't have a shipping option so this is why I opted into EIS. I know buyers won't buy due to the import fees but mostly due to the shipping costs ping ponging my stuff to Toronto.  I know that. At least if I'm in EIS my stuff will be shown to the United States

It's working. Today I got this msg from a repeat customer.

"Mark here in Pittsburgh ... I hope you are well my friend. ......
I am interested in another 10" tom but I guess I have my President to thank for a $100 in shipping and import fees!!! Ouch ... are you able to make me any sort of deal here? Hope to hear from you, thanks."

Those of you with a sales background know that's called a lead. First one I've had since August 29!

I'm not changing my listings or prices. Rather than jump into the "fray" I'm focusing on niches in other markets until there is stabilization or some sort of lesser de minimis emerges.  I put music back in the closet.  Memorabilia has no expiration date.

Canada - Home building and renos are trending.

Besides music I'm a retired master painter. Home & Garden seemed to be a good place to "hideout"  until things stabilize so I'm listing there.  In Devon's Q & A I asked him  "Is there a problem with the EIS restricted goods list and can we please have a complete breakdown of the items that are on those restricted lists?"

His answer was; "Our item exclusions may include items that, while not wholly restricted, require additional hurdles for border clearance in our system that we cannot currently support. It can also vary for the same item based on the origin and destination country. If you think there may be a listing where this is applied incorrectly, I’d recommend flagging it to [email protected]."

He did not offer up a list. someone else asked the same question and no list was mentioned. He did say (paraphrasing) "while not restricted there are hurdles for border clearance that are not currently supported."

This is why I believe @marnotom!  and @recped are absolutley correct in saying the blockage from a widget's acceptance to EIS is due to a complete block at the Category's root or it's subcategory. Not providing eBay sellers with this "list" of dead ends is causing us to fail at listing without knowing why. The simple solution is to list in another category if you can.  Going through all this rigamorall is a huge waste of time. In my view eBay should be transparent about where the blocks are so we can succeed and not fail. I'm not angry for this premature rollout just dissapointed the functionality wasn't disclosed.

I hope visiting non posters can read these threads and save some time by not messing with workarounds that fail like I have.

Thanks again for the input! I'm signing off.  Getting a hot toddy. Tomorrow I'll find a category that works (hopefully).

Photos  All items are made in the USA and category is Home & Garden #1 is a US Seller's EIS listing selling my identical item to Canada. #2 is my EIS to USA rejected item. shipping via tracked packet Int to all other countries in my shipping policy is working. #3 Rejected color fan deck (paper and plastic). I have listed 4 so far all rejected.

I wouldn't compare a US seller using US eIS to ship to Canada with a Canadian seller using Canadian eIS to ship to the US. There are undoubtedly different rules eBay needs to follow depending on which direction the shipment is going.

For the paint chip deck, have you tried removing the word "shell" and seeing if it makes a difference? Could just be rogue AI trying to rule out anything that could even remotely be considered organic material. Here's a similar one from a Canadian seller (in the same category/subcategory) that is properly showing an eIS option to the States, so I don't think it's a category-level block.

Hi @dinomitesales

Thank you for your input. You're a bit late to the party

The photos were included to answer to  @marnotom! earlier question.

"Does eIS not handle these items at all then, or just to the US?  Are sellers from the US who are using eIS able to ship them internationally, or at least is the appearance there in the listings?"

The category isn't worth more workarounds but thank you!

Re: eBay International Shipping Canadian Hub

I was just trying to provide a possible explanation as to why your paint chip deck wasn't showing.

You reached this conclusion:

"This is why I believe @marnotom!  and @recped are absolutley correct in saying the blockage from a widget's acceptance to EIS is due to a complete block at the Category's root or it's subcategory."

Yet I proved to you that wasn't true by linking to another person's listing that had virtually the same product, in the exact same category, that was eIS eligible.

I don't think any of us know exactly how the blocks work on eIS, and any hypotheses are merely conjecture at this point. Personally, I think they're just blocking things based off of keywords, but of course there's no way of knowing that for sure.
