CANADA TO US BY EBAY EIS RIDICULOUS

Shipping from Canada to the USA via eBay is completely ridiculous. $50.48 for a 200g item in a 17 x 12 x 11 cm package?!

Canada Post and Zonos is the way to go for most items.

Ouch.  I guess the good news is you'd only pay fees for $10 shipping...

edit: Probably adding fees to handle it as if it were not just an empty bottle?

Similar to the eBay graft for items going in the other direction. I think sellers are using this only because it makes their life easier and they are off the hook if the item never makes it from the 'hub' to the buyer. Sure not useful for,  and very expensive for buyers.

I just shipped a Sandicast bear to a USA buyer that ended up being severly damaged in transit.  EIS was seamless looking after it.  I did not have to deal with an angry buyer or negative feedback and the buyer was fully reimbursed by EBAY. Win Win.

eIS was never intended as a buyer friendly system> eIS is for the benefit of the seller> eIS is all about making the seller's shipping experience easier and more hassle -free, whilst absolving the seller of any problems, issues, consequences that may arise from/during that shipping method.

I'm looking at a listing for a vintage medicine bottle from a seller in New York state.  The seller ships by USPS (not eIS) to Canada for US$38.50, or about C$52.19 at current exchange rates.  Rates for shipping vintage medicine bottles from the US to Canada seem to be in the US$30-40 dollar range for the most part, no matter what shipping method is used.  Granted, many of these bottles are larger than yours, but it looks as though shipping these things in general doesn't come cheap anymore.

Speaking of older things, the references to PayPal in the Frosst bottle's description are pretty out of date.  Just thought you should know.

@brocante6 We know eBay takes a number of things into account for international shipping, not just what you input as package measurements. Clearly the AI thinks your item is a lot larger or heavier than it is, or requires special handling. Do you have fields for size and weight in that item's category specifics? If so, maybe try filling them in and see if it changes the price. Worth a try. You can also send a message to the eIS team along with a link to your listing so they can see what's going on.

For comparison, I have some small toys with the same approximate package size and weight and eIS estimates $21.50 going from Ontario to California.

I have been speaking my mind on Ebay and their awful EIS and promoted listings push in the midst of tariffs, inflation and Canada Post strikes.

Its like ebay doesnt care about sellers, especially sellers located outside of the USA

The medicine catagory must have ticked something with EIS to charge more.

The blue coffin bottle you have listed is only charging $30 CAD to USA. Its not in the medicine catagory.

From Quebec City, NetParcel + your own Zonos verified account would be close to $21.17 total.

$9.82 Tracked Packet USA via NetParcel for 200g
Zonos: $8.50 duties (aprox.) + $0.85 10% fee + $2.00 fee

Use chit chats, stallion express, netParcel, swiftpost etc.

EIS is a mostly bad deal for buyers and sellers unless you sell little Nick nacks and/ or live in the woods and have no choice.

For competitive selling I’d avoid it if I was you.

I disagree. I (almost) sold more things in the last month with eIS than I sold in the last year. So for me, it's a win!

Sure, all you have to do is waste 15 mins per item doing the zonos thing and a Canada Post customs form AND you do not get the discount on shipping Ebay used to provide for Canada Post shipments.  At best, you'll get 5% off the normal Canada Post rate if you have a business number with them.  Anything of size, UPS and let the buyer deal with the brokerage fees, if any.

"Anything of size, UPS and let the buyer deal with the brokerage fees, if any."

and you have successfully worked with UPS to back up that advice so others would have some sort of  confidence in doing same?

Are you aware of the potentially very costly (for you the seller) charges using a UPS DDU service to ship to the USA?

If the buyer was to refuse the shipment YOU will be on the hook for any duties paid on your behalf by UPS, you will be responsible for the UPS brokerage fees and return shipping. If you purchase the UPS label via eBay it will be eBay that will come after you to pay these charges and if you don't you will face a permanent suspension of your eBay selling account which will be handed over to a collection agency who will hound you for YEARS. Of course in addition you will probably have to fully refund the buyer.

What was a workable shipment prior to the end of August (end of Di Minimis) is no longer a feasible shipping method.

It looks like you sell informational media which is generally easier to ship and it also sounds like eBay isn’t a significant portion of your income.

I’m speaking on behalf of people who want to sell competitively.

Anybody who has access to chitchats or stallion express and even netParcel or swiftpost on a pinch should use those over EIS. Faster, cheaper and less restrictive on what can be sent.
