On Nov 2025 I sold an item on ebay. I was given a shipping label for UPS. I printed it off and brought it and the item to the nearest UPS store. The store refused to ship the item due to it not being in a box and because of the size of the item, I couldnt find a box so i bubble wrapped and shrink wrapped it. They never touched the item nor did they scan the label. I went home home to discuss options with the buyer. Realized he was in a city i would be traveling through the following week while on vacation so i offered to cancel the ebay deal, issue a refund then we could do the deal privately and i would deliver the item myself. The following week, the deal was done. Keep in mind, the shipping label was not used or scanned, it went into the garbage. Fast forward December 23 2025, I was notified by ebay i was being charged for the shipping label. I contacted customer service and after being transferred to 4 different people it was determined that somehow the shipping label went active the moment i printed it off. Ebay refused to help me and blamed UPS. I spent the last 2 weeks fighting with UPS, made a claim, passed around to a total of 17 representatives from customer service, claims, accounting and brokerage/accounting. Getting nothing but “ill transfer you to someone that can help you”. Last person said they never charged ebay for this shipping label and to contact ebay. Ebay still wont help me, they are blaming UPS. So i guess my next option is take legal action against ebay?

Maybe ask this question on reddit instead of on an official eBay boardsince you indicated you circumvented eBay rules to cut them out.

I read the rules, I didnt circumvent anything. UPS refused to ship the item. I gave the buyer the option to cancel with a full refund since there was no way to ship it to him with no option for me to deliver the item. The buyer still wanted the item so I gave him the option of doing the deal privately and i would deliver it. I even asked ebay if i was being penalized for this and they said no.

Does your unused UPS label tracking number show "On the way" when you look at the tracking on UPS?

I would not expect a response, but have you reached out to [email protected] ?

When a label does not or isn't planning to be used (or doesn't print) the proper procedure is to void (cancel) the label. You will be charged in whatever timeline the courier/mail is using and then be credited thereafter...usually 10 to 15 business days. (+-)

Jan 8 - investigation closed

Ebays policy is you arent charged until the label is scanned. I had one guy from ups tell me you are charged the moment you print the label off, which is why it automatically went active.

Once i canceled the order i tried to csncel the label but it wouldnt let me. Just said “there is no need to void the label since you wont be charged until it is scanned”
