First eIS sale after opt in- Buyer only paid for lettermail shipping to hub - who pays hub to buyer?

I made my first sale to the US since I was opted into eIS and I'm finding it a bit confusing.

For international shipping, the only option is eIS.

For domestic shipping, I use lettermail. $8.70 (300g magazine).

My buyer lives in Florida.  So, I assume the shipping cost would be $8.70 CAD for me to ship to the Hub + the fee for ebay to ship from the hub to Florida. 

However, the total shipping they paid $8.70 CAD (350 g magazine) that I see in the order details.  

So, my question: 

- Did the buyer actually pay for eIS and the additional eIS amount (to ship it from the hub to Florida) is hidden from me?

Customer support hasn't been very knowledgeable.

The $8.70 you are seeing is the amount for DOMESTIC shipping, you see that because that is what YOU get paid to ship domestically. 

Your buyer actually paid $23.77 which includes your domestic shipping amountof $8.70 plus $15.07 to EIS.

You don't see it because it isn't part of your sale's proceeds. It is between eBay and the buyer.

There are a couple areas to find some of the hidden amounts.  The order page itself is misleading with the headings 'What your buyer paid', as it's only a portion of what they paid.

- Put in USA and a zip code on the original listing page to see what ebay shows as the shipping and import fees could be before taxes.

- Print a packing slip for the order via 'More actions...' on the order page.  The packing slip / Receipt will have different totals, the packing slip includes the total the buyer actually paid AFAIK.

I'm still not sure what the order total is on the 'receipt' print out.

You can also get full destination address details by seeing "View Tax Invoice" from the same 'More actions...' menu.

On an international sale, the final value fees are always based on the seller’s domestic shipping charges, whether eIS is used or not.

Had a non-EIS item sell where I charged less for US shipping than domestic shipping and I only got charged FVF on what the US buyer paid, not on my higher domestic shipping charge. This was on a Canadian-based ebay.ca listing.

I thought there would be an exception in instances where the US shipping rate was lower than the domestic one, but I was too busy/lazy to look up the info.

It's always been the lower of domestic shipping OR actual shipping charged.

For a few months this year for some listings my domestic shipping was $12 while my US shipping was $10. For those the lower US rate was used for fee calculations.

The one situation that really pays off for me is when I create a custom order for a non-Canadian, for those I set the Canada rate as "free" since I know it will be an international buyer.

For me, ebay.ca's non-EIS international (to US) fees are only based Item Price + Taxes collected. 

No Shipping amount other than the taxes on that shipping amount paid by the buyer goes towards the 'Fees based on'.

Small Colorado and Minnisota retail fees also added if sending there.

Plus 0.4% international fee on that total, and 1% to other countries on that total.

I will need to check into that.   

I took a look at past sales and the shipping charged to the US was what was in the fee base, even if Canadian was cheaper.   eg. $15 to Canada $19 to US, so $19 was in the fee base.

With flat packet rates there are a number of times when Canadian is more expensive.   And when I have free shipping it has been to both the US and Canada.

Because you’ve been listing on .com rather than .ca.  A sale to the US for a listing posted on .com would be considered a domestic US sale.

Good point.  It is also very rare that Canadian shipping is much cheaper thas US for me.
