I read about the seller who had all his listing deleted and wonder how to best backup all my listings.
I use Backblaze but am not sure that backs up my listings, just my computer.
I would be devastated to lose all my info and photos as the old books and paper items do not do well with handling and scanning and it takes a huge amount of time to make listings.
Any advice? How does everyone else do this please?
Thanks in advance.

devon@ebay Any suggestions for this and any other users who are concerned about a magical loss of listings? It's very time consuming to confirm and recreate listings. The CSV report is very clunky and does not really address the time time involved to re-create photos.
Any word when dot ca will be seeing the deluxe new and improved AI advanced photo editor that's was released in 2024 for the PC?

FWIW - I don't like to be dependent on possibly fly by night organizations and detest paying for storing stuff I may never need.
My system has been to keep desktop files of my pictures and of my descriptions on my computer.

Looking online, Frooition touts itself as "The only eBay certified design company" and claims that " Frooition sit (sic) on the eBay developer council and are always pre-informed and well prepared for changes to the platform."
Apparenly, they offer full eBay backup but...I imagine it costs quite a bit of $$$.
Disclaimer: I don't use nor endorse this platform.

I don't profess to understand the circumstances around the all listings deleted scenario, I too would be devastated by losing all my listings, and I've not got a backup process in place either.
I do think that it is important to keep an eye on ones performance metrics, I suspect that there might have been signs there that would help explain why the bots decided that an account was hacked, or at least in most cases there would be.
I had a buyer and reseller who's account was compromised as part of a separation, ie the spouse used the account to sell a bunch of ficticious stuff and took the cash, so it can happen that's for sure.
I'm interested to see if there are any easy backup solutions, I don't recall ever seeing one mentioned here. Like femme/reallyn, I have all my pictures back to forever ago, backed up in two places. Even so, the time to rebuild would be catastrophic (and I only have 5,000 items).

There are many third-party tools that can store your listings offline so that they are always available and easily re-uploaded to eBay in case of the type of issue you refer to.
The majority of these options are by subscription so not free. They also do a lot more than just store data, you can do almost all of your eBay activity via these services.
I use SixBit but their cheapest plan is around $30/month. You might have a look at Wonderlister which is a very similar program at a much lower price.
If you go this route you may find that beyond a simple backup you can do almost all of your active eBay work through these programs with much greater flexibility and simplicity than using eBay's built in tools.
In a pinch using eBay Reports is better than nothing and you could easily rebuild your listings from there although you would need to maintain all your images and re-add them as they are not part of the available download from the eBay API.

Thanks for your inputs. I will look into Sixbit but am not very technically savy and don't have any issues with the existing listing tool. I would just like a backup available for a just in case scenario.
I don't use the reports section at all on eBay. All my items are unique in terms of requiring their own photos and descriptions of condition etc. so I don't see how that would help me. Perhaps I looked at something different than what you meant?
I do not have bulk sales of identical types.

Yes I would like to keep them all in my desktop but how physically do you do that?. And then how do the ones that you sell get eliminated so that the file stays relevant to the date?

Very easy to do. Free. Saves locally as a PDF that can be C&Pasted in the event of catastrophe. (See photo of partial PDF of one of your listings)
No software needed;
Windows Users
Done habitually it takes a couple of seconds. If you haven't saved your pix previously you will need to download your photos from the active listings. Creating listing photos is the biggest job along with item research. To avoid recovering these save both every time you make a listing. (It depends on what you sell if your item research, COAs or authenticity Guarantees are important enough to save.)
***If you haven't created an inventory SKU system I suggest 7 numbers. Organize them to place your items together in groups of store categories or eBay cats or both. IE 1122333 11=Store cat, 22=eBay cat, 333 =item specific id
For me same system has worked for 40 years incl brick and mortar. (25,000 skus, no duplicates).
Optionally when an item sells you can move the SKU folder to a "solds" folder (IE: 2025 Solds) . This makes it easy to find a sold item in the event you want to relist it or list a similar item.
If you don't have a few seconds you can pay for software and rely on them to store it.

@femmefan1946 is correct. Her method is free and the data stays locally. Here's how I do that. the system also answers your question about active inventory staying relevant following sold items.
It's not hard at all if you use a Windows destop or a laptop. Not sure how this works on a Mac.
Best wishes!

Although I have but a measley 1000 (approximately) listings between my 2 selling sites, All descriptions, all photos are stored in files on my PC computer. (and it is NOT difficult to add or delete as needed.)

You are too modest... since when is a thousand listings measely? ;>
I can't keep up with one platform not to mention two...

I have a text document with the Descriptions , including HTML coding.
I have another with all the scans /jpegs that I have made of my stamps, sewing patterns, book covers. Very few of my items require photographs.
I am a technodolt and my motto is KISS.

Crazy enough, I have ALL my pictures, back to 1999 still saved (ahhh the Sony Mavica 3.5" floppy days!!!)
My process for pictures is there's a round number directory (the camera only runs up to 9,999 pictures) and within that directory are about 1,000 pictures. I'm currently on 184 for the current camera so the poor wee thing is working on 184,000 pictures in its lifetime so far!
For the items running, each ebay item has on it it's pictures and the ebay item number (I write these on each item after I take the pictures of the items in batches). Once they are running in ebay, I file the various boxes, envelopes etc based on the last 3 numbers of the eBay item number. This way in the event of a disaster, I know from the actual item what pictures belong to it. Having the ebay item number on the item is useful because when items synchronize to other site(s) so far they also reference back to the synchronized ebay number which makes it very much easier to find them when they sell that way. As well for some of my other non-synchronized venues I can move items between as all I need is the physical item and I know which pictures belong to it.

Wow. Many thanks for that help. I will definately give it a go.

Definately a market for some clever techie to create an app/program to automate the backup.

When Turbo Lister went away, there were all sorts of suggestions, alternatives ideas...but NOTHING has ever been able to repace Turbo Lister>NO one wants to PAY for such apps or tech services....

Happy New Year!
Good systems like that just keep on working. It's nice to see them passed on. Admittedly back at the beginning I used a lot of Marsha Collier's books for ideas. Most still work. Ironically I'll soon list her books on eBay as "vintage" LOL.
Thanks for the use of the eBay item number tip. I've never thought about it's cross listing values although you the eBay number number automatically backed up as well if you save as PDFs.
I don't re-save listings if I sell similar. The eBay number changes then. If you use my method and list on multiple platforms and also use sell similar on eBay listings a seller might want to carry over the number. I've never used multiple platforms but you make a good point on the value of the number after performing a "sell similar".
Thanks!

maybe it should be KISSRS
(keep it simple stupid selling reallynicestamps) haha ;>)

Your best bet might be something like 3D Sellers (disclaimer: I haven't tried them). It's not free though.
