Package is in transit (delayed), buyer filed INR and got refunded.

Happy New Year!

This my first INR and refund, my questions might be stupid and naive.

Timeline:

Dec 1 - item sold and shppied (stallion, intelcom)

Dec 3 - last tracking update

Dec 20 - INR initiated, I was in contact with buyer and stallion support all this time (stallion confirmed delays, asked to wait more, so did I - asked buyer to wait a bit more, was forwarding all replies from stallion to buyer).

Jan 2  - ebay issued refund

Questions:

- shoud I get refund for ebay fees?

- what happens when/if item eventually reaches buyer? should I just leave it as is (we taking $30 transaction) or contact ebay (is it even possible to reverse INR decision/payment)?

- my package had no "Stallion protection" option, so if it is lost - I just eat the lost an move on?

Thanks!

If you voluntarily refund the buyer then part of the refund will be covered by the eBay fees you paid. If you don't refund yourself and eBay has to do it then you do not get your fees back.

If it does eventually get delivered your only hope is if the buyer is agreeable to repaying (it does happen sometimes). The repayment is something you would have to do outside of eBay (PayPal, Venmo, Cashapp etc.)

Re: Package is in transit (delayed), buyer filed INR and got refunded.

UPDATE

Parcel fianlly made its way to the buyer.

I chatted with buyer, but none of us knew how to reverse a refund issued by ebay earlier.

So I used appeal option in the INR case to indicate that delivery was finally finished. Ebay verified it and reversed a refund.

Just a note that another repayment option is just to relist a special only for that person lot, they simply purchase and pay for, we as seller mark as shipped and all is well.

In few cases ,when I issued a refund and the items were delivered later, buyers refunded me via Paypal.Have also an experience, when buyer admited receiving ,but never paid me back as they promised.Ebay will do nothing in such cases.

You can always report and block the buyer. If they get enough reports about similar incidents, eBay bans their account. - I know, if it's a serial scammer, they would just keep creating new accounts, but at least they'd have to work for it.

Nice! This just happened to me last week as well. Had sent an item end of November (Canada Post/Zonos), and it disappeared somewhere in Chicago mid-to-late December. Buyer opened an INR case and I voluntarily closed that claim by providing them with a full refund (so I got my eBay fees back at least). Lo and behold, the package popped back up a few days after I refunded  and eventually made it's way to the buyer and got delivered. Buyer didn't respond to any of my messages requesting repayment (can't really blame them; they got their money back already) so I appealed the INR case with eBay and they gave me my money back. I actually came out ahead because the amount eBay gave me back was simply the sum of the original purchase price + shipping paid by the buyer, and didn't include any original eBay fees.  I came out $12 ahead on the whole situation lol.

To sweeten the deal, I had opened a missing mail claim with Canada Post around mid-December and they actually granted my insurance claim early January because there hadn't been any update on the tracking for weeks. I figured surely they would update that claim and cancel it when the package started tracking again, but I guess they don't pay attention to that once a decision has been made on the claim because I had a cheque in my mailbox for my insurance cost + original shipping on Friday lol.

Re: Package is in transit (delayed), buyer filed INR and got refunded.

@dinomitesales I had one package that arrived ok after I had the insurance cheque from CP and the rippers made me pay it back.... so stay tuned.

That was many years ago, however since they're "poorer" now it'll be interesting to see what happens!
