With due respect to all:   I'm a proud eBay member since 2009.

Given the hate, bashing and belittelment expressed in this forum I'm recommending to eBay Canada, (located at 240 Richmond Street West, 2nd Floor Suite 02-100, Toronto, Ontario, M5V 1V6), and it's parent company located at  2025 Hamilton Ave, San Jos, CA it is in the best interset of this forum to be closed for seven days to allow sellers to focus on re-callibrating their stores.

I'm suggesting to all of you it's in our best interest that eBay Canada close this forum to begin at midnight August 25 and to reopen for posting on Tuesday September 2nd. The period will allow for cooling off as is illustrated in the recent posts and so we can refocus our sales targets within our new boundaries.

Today we all have eBay.  Can we please work together to keep it that way?

Let's shut down the forum for one week.

Dear Moderator (September 15, 2025)

I've requested before that you take down this thread of which I authored. for some reason you have left it live. I authored it in August as a suggestion. The intent was to take a break from the rude and sometimes bullying posting due to varied views about the elimination of the de minimis.  Since the departing of Tyler, who was our eBay liason, the forum is becoming much like the wild west of Reddit. It has grown in temperature . Since then some folks act aggressively clearly evidenced here.   I do think the forum needs some sort of "reset" as shown by inappropriate posts in this thread.

Some of these posters here resorted to using REAL NAMES of sellers in a threatening manner.  I do not feel that is safe. Those people have broken the eBay forum's Policy AND They need to be reminded. There is clearly intimidation being carried out just because they disagree with the sharing of views. I feel all of us should be entitled to suggest changes if we feel they would improve both the forum and our selling successes.

Or, you know, you could just log off the forums for a week and it would have the same effect for you.

This forum is a valuable tool for Canadian sellers to communicate with other Canadian sellers.

Shutting off that means of communication during what may be the most significant disruption to our businesses (ever!) is an absolutely asinine suggestion.

Why should everyone else suffer because you are personally having a difficult and negative experience?

I appreciate that it's not your intention, but a possible reading of your post is that it's a suggestion that sellers are incapable of "recalibrating their stores" if a single forum out of half a dozen or on eBay Canada so is not shut down.

No one in this forum can verify who you are.  The boardies have communicated to me who you might be. This is eBay SELLER CENTRAL. Unless you actually reveal who you are even what the boardies have said cannot be verified. Given what I have told you about AI you are putting everyday eBay folks at risk by provoking anger with words like calling American buyers "cement heads".

You never reveal who you are and in your defense you send me links. Here is a link as to why no one ever should trust.

Thank you all. I didn't expect this to be a poll. It's not. I'm going to ask that the forum be closed for 7 days.

I will do this first of all by phoning San Jose tomorrow on August 18.  Let' see.

This forum is a useful place for Canadian sellers to convene and share valuable info.

Some people do ecommerce full time and not as a hobby.

A few anti-trump remarks shouldn't warrant taking away a valuable tool for people's businesses if theyr'e not threatening or going over the line. Have you looked around Canada lately? It is perfectly understandable why many are upset with diplomatic and trade relations at the likes of comments and policies of trump.

I don't think most people are upset with Americans as a whole or our customers, at least that isn't the avenue that I myself am taking. I want to be on top of things so that I can make this transition as smooth as possible for my loyal American customers, who are just as frustrated with the president in my conversations with some of them.

Your'e free to log off during that week and meditate or w/e you want tho.  Some of us want to stay on the ball so we can you know...stay in business, do right by our customers and pay our bills.

Why does this bother you so much?  I'm just someone who worked in brick and mortar retail for over a dozen years, assisted with my wife's eBay sales for eight or nine years (which means the sales are attached to her ID and not mine), and now work on a casual/on-call basis in the public sector. I stick around here out of interest and just in case either of us gets crazy enough to start selling online again.  I don't think anybody can glean much from who a seller is just by going through what they are currently selling on the site.  You are not necessarily what you sell.  Do you try to find out everything you can about your buyers before you sell to them?

Besides, you seemed to be okay with my posts in a thread you started with a title that suggested that you were going to give up on selling to the United States.

You mean the American buyers you're not selling to?  Oh, wait, I guess you are now.

The reference to "cement heads" was in response to something another poster had said about one particular individual being "dense as cement."  My post doesn't even make specific reference to Americans.

You know, you really should be careful about what and how you post here given how AI can treat what you write.

eBay already has an outfit contracted out to moderate and maintain the Community Forums.  It's called Khoros and its logo is on the bottom of the screen when the forums are viewed on a desktop/notebook computer.  I'm not sure if it shows up when viewed on a phone or tablet.

That period of time is when sellers need the boards the most to try to work out the details of how shipping is going to change. Closing it serves absolutely no purpose and would increase confusion. If bugs are introduced into whatever changes eBay has to make, it also makes it harder to communicate those issues.

this forum should certainly not be shut down for 7 days or any days.  Especially at the crticial time of just before and just after Aug 29, when new important informaton may be coming to light.  Sellers certainly can't rely on Ebay to keep them up to date.

If anyone here is offended by the comments of others they are free to stop reading posts from those members, or just stop coming to the forum.  This is a moderated forum, so if anything were deemed to be 'out of bounds' the moderators would and have stepped in.

It's not up to one person to decide on the fate of this forum for everyone else.  Very undemocratic.

It is absolutely vital that this forum remain open, so Canadian eBay sellers can share their experiences related to the profound, complex, and confusing changes that are expected to be introduced to shipping to the United States starting August 29.

This, as any forum has always had contributions from very upset, frustrated, nervous, scared, not always politically correct contributors.

I've been on ebay for over 25 years and selling for over 47 now. (ebay store is closed for summer holiday at the moment). This is for certain the most unstable, unpredictable time to be trying to sell internationally that I've ever experienced.

As with all forums, one has to separate out the chaff, but for me at least, this forum has, and continues to be the best vehicle I have to see what's going on currently, what is working and not working, and make my business decisions based on a combination of what I see here, and personal experience.

I add the personal experience aspect because the forums will tend to focus on the problems, which tends to paint a negative impression and we need to remind ourselves of the relative perspective - ie if we're reading about the "criminal buyers" that's a very small % against the honest ones. We can build business processes to account for this, same as we do for lost items ("cookie jar" insurance concept).

I've built my contingency plans based on what I'm seeing here and personal experience. I've mentioned in other threads that I won't implement my most drastic contingencies until I personally experience enough $$/time loss to force it to happen - we sell in a wide variety of categories and what happens in the CDs categories could be quite different from what happens in my stamp categories.

I've also said a number of times in other threads that I am especially lucky/thankful that I'm at the stage in life that I'm not 100% dependant on my business income anymore. I as others here, would be freaking out if this was happening 5 years ago when I did depend on the income, because this is a much larger problem than "ebay" - it's everything outside the country. I 100% feel for the "full time" folks who're trying to figure out how to survive this, hopefully the information sharing and experience here helps folks pave the way to the new future.

We've always been faced with the evolve to survive concept, this happens to be an "asteroid impact" kind of situation that is/will be scary, but it is/should also be surviveable too.

Time will tell.

Well, I beg to differ. One on my comments about POTAS was removed for 'political' reasons, in a jungle of political posts.

I tried clicking the Khoros logo to get some forum help, and it took me to the eBay help site, which, as we all know, is basically useless.

Interesting. Clicking or tapping on the Khoros logo takes me to the Khoros website, as it should, as far as I'm concerned.
