Upcoming Section 232 tariff updates - Metal derivative tariffs

It looks like any product going into the USA will now face an import tariff on anything containing any metal at all of any percent or value that wasnt originated in the USA. This will impact my products because I sell handmade paint in aluminum tubes.

Does anyone have an official list of the HTS codes effected by this? I am under the assumption that all products containing aluminum/ steel/ copper are effected but I could be wrong.

Luckily for me the value of the tube component of the end product is low and technically a small component of the end product since it is just a container for the actual product (the paint) which is where the overwhelming majority of the value and functionality comes from.

I sell at 2 price points - 19 and 28. The aluminum tube portion of that value is only around .64 cents CAD per tube since I buy in bulk.

Am I to assume correctly that they are going to tax each of my tubes at around .32 cents per item? ill just be tacking it onto the shipping costs either way.

Judging by the way ChitChats talked about this the fee would be based on the percentage of the metal involved as well as the value of its inclusion. I think I remember reading some months back that Stallion Express was just blanket charging 50% tariffs on ANY item even if it has a speck or a dot of metal on it that didnt contribute much to the value of the end product. Was this a seller misunderstanding the rules or a glitch on the behalf of stallion express or is this a real thing?

And how would this even work with antiques where the origins and physical makeup are unknown? Is shipping vintage materials into the USA now pretty much a dead venture until trump gets trounced by the supreme court and gets clobbered in the midterms and democrats and the adults are back in power?

If this is true, the USA has gone completely mad.

This is NOT new, this factor was applicable weeks, months ago but no one(especially small sellers) took it seriously. Again, nothing I have to worry about, as I don't and won't shop ANYTHING to the USA.  Although I am not listing/selling anything on eBay until February, I am quite content with my ship to Canada only policy on both my selling sites and the Canada only is doing well on my other selling site...

Well that explains why my vintage brass and cast iron items are being excluded from EIS to the US... What a sh*tshow.

As a vintage seller, I'm seriously considering just closing my eBay page. Most of my sales were going to US buyers, but since this summer I've barely sold anything. Opting in to EIS was supposed to bring some on my sales back, but now half my listings are being blocked to US buyers because of tariffs and duties nonsense. I had noticed that is was mostly items containing metal, I guess this post confirms my suspicions.

"What a sh*tshow."

The world has been  a " sh*tshow." since DT conned his way back into the Presidency again...

I absolutely refuse to aide and abet this felon in his manipulative greedy extortionist coercion tactics against Canada & the rest of the world.  Yes, I do miss not having those USA buyers, but I can work with Canada only.

Although not listing anything on eBay until February, my other selling site is holding well with Canadian only buyers.

It is what it is...

Best wishes to all for better sales in 2026!
