I know that they are changing to charging if an item sells if any buyer has clicked on it through the promoted listing program in the last month even if they were not the ones that purchased it. I am going to delete promotions or reduce the ad rate to the very minimum.

According to the announcement post and Attribution Definition page attribution for general campaigns changes begin January 13.

"The ad fee is charged when a buyer purchases the promoted item from a general ad that any buyer clicked on in the most recent 30 days. The item must be promoted at the time of click and the time of sale. The ad fee is based on the ad rate in effect at the time of the sale."
This means that we would pay the extra on almost every sale...a huge fee increase. No thanks. I won't play that game. I'll edit my listings.

Too late now, but I ended all my Promoted Listings in November to avoid the 30 day Halo.
While I actually like the Promoted Listings program as cheap advertising, I'll wait to see how this change plays out.
I have not, so far, noticed any great change in number of sales or value of sales, but Q4 is always my slowest season with Q1 being the strongest.

Now that eBay has changed how promoted listings work with the top ad slots on a page (going now to the click ads I believe), I'm not actually sure how much benefit it provides. I wish we knew more on how effective it actually is.

So I will make sure that my ad rate at time of sale is really small or zero..
