UPS just doubled their rates Sunday morning in ON??

Hello, First time posting.
I was making some UPS shipping labels through eBay this morning and after making the first one that cost me $10.60, I went back to make a second label and the rates spiked to $25.52! Smaller package, shipping to a closer distance! I was shocked. I spoke to a rep who couldn't provide me with any reason for the mass increase and I was advised to go ahead and purchase the label at the price and that I was guaranteed to be credited $14 for the difference. I reluctantly did so and I really hope eBay makes good on their word and I don't end up losing money. It's bad enough that Canada Post is able to withdraw additional funds from my account for expedited lite shipping labels that I already paid for, but now UPS is digging in, too?? This is getting tougher every day. September's Local Pickup only glitch for Ontarian eBay sellers, the strike, the time it took to adjust shipping costs to reflect UPS solid rates only to have them double it on Thanksgiving morning....what's a "Loyal eBay Member" to do?? I am beyond frustrated at the moment and I know I'm not alone. Thanks you for allowing me to rant.

I had the exact same thing happen with UPS. I purchased a label on Friday for a larger package that was a reasonable price. I think it was under $15.00.  Today I went to make another label for a much smaller package & was charged over $25.00. I do not believe you will be credited for the overcharge. I have 5 overcharges for Expedited Lite labels through Canada Post & eBay has done nothing to credit us sellers. They have not even addressed the issue. I also have been charged many extra fees for listings even though it showed that there would be no extra charges. This is very dishonest. We are at the mercy of eBay with absolutely no recourse.

This was shipping something inside Canada?  That is a kicker.  Looks like you are in Southern Ontario.  If you keep getting higher rates like that perhaps check options like Stallion Express or Chitchats.

If you were to get another label for the first one, is the estimate still $10.60?

If calculated shipping was sued, did ebay collect $25.52 (including any handling) for the smaller/closer or was the calculated rate for buyer's location incorrect?

According to search here is a list of recent UPS price increases. (Canada)

Yes, UPS Canada has implemented several price increases and new fees that went into effect in September and October 2025. While the general rate increase for 2025 was announced earlier, more specific surcharges and fees have been recently updated.

October 2025 price increases
  • Fuel surcharge: The fuel surcharge for Standard Service within Canada increased from 24.50% to 25.00% as of October 6, 2025.
  • New demand surcharges: As of October 26, 2025, additional fees may apply during peak season for certain residential and area delivery surcharges.

September 2025 price changes
  • Updated demand and surge fees: New or updated fees for certain domestic and international shipments, including packages requiring additional handling or large packages, went into effect on September 28, 2025.
  • International processing fee: An International Processing fee was implemented for U.S. Import shipments on September 8, 2025.
  • Paper commercial invoice surcharge: The surcharge for this service increased beginning on September 21, 2025.

Surge Fees:

As a side on dot com when there are UPS and Fedex price increases eBay is usually quick to post an announcement.

No, I checked and the cost jumped if I was to repurchase that initial label, too! So confusing

Re: UPS just doubled their rates Sunday morning in ON??

Inside of Canada and closer than the first label I purchased that day. The $10.40 is going to Quebec and now to ship within Ontario, 4 hrs away, it's $25.52!! The cost to ship items in Canada using UPS had been between $10.40-$13 since the canpost strike so I've been adjusting my shipping costs to reflect that price and using ups and now it's skyrocketed! I don't know what eBay expects sellers to do?

I'm in the same boat with you regarding expedited lite credits. Many guarantees over the phone with customer service with zero credits ending up back in my account. I even have a senior leader tell me he was refusing the credit even though I had it guaranteed in writing, and rep, Jeremy (yeah I remember his name), told me that if I didn't like it then to snail mail my complaint to their corporate office in San Diego or somewhere... The most unprofessional behavior I've encountered using eBay. I also fear for the worse in this scenario

"I don't know what eBay expects sellers to do? "...there are alternatives...

I no longer ship anything outside of Canada and I for one am using Purolator(netParcel via PayPal) until Canada Post is back to some sort of "normality"(i.e. complete functionality, not this rotating strike **bleep**!)

@yoneath  I would suggest using Click Ship.  They generally have really good UPS rates (Purolator and CanPar too!) and offer free pickup to most areas. I've generally found UPS to places close by is cheaper with eBay and UPS to everywhere else is cheaper with Click Ship.

It's worth noting though that UPS often has a different definition of remote than Canada Post does. Just because it's 4 hours away doesn't mean it's necessarily cheap. I'm shipping a package today that's 5 hours away but to somewhere the couriers consider remote. UPS wanted $40+. I was able to send it via ICS (through Click Ship) for $12 with free pickup. Other options were Sendle at $14 or Purolator at $18.

Re: UPS just doubled their rates Sunday morning in ON??

When I went to list something similiar today I too noticed an increase in the amount to ship expedited lite in Canada. Showing fom $15.44 to $30.14 when it used to be $7 something for the lowest. WTH. Are we no longer getting discounts via eBay? For those of you who have actually talked to them what are they telling you re the increases?  Even with the increases noted by lotz it should not be this much more. I am talking shipping within Canada as I am not longer shipping to the US until I see what happens with eBay & the international hub. This increase in lite will make shipping in Canada somewhat prohibitive on my items. Also concerned about my flat fee ship options to UK & Australia which I based on what I had been paying with the eBay discount.
Starting to feel that I may be done with eBay. I am in the rural area & some of those other options are simply not available to me.

Re: UPS just doubled their rates Sunday morning in ON??

If eBay does not return our Canada Post discounts, I will be limiting my listing on eBay to only those items that ship via oversize lettermail...Currently putting my efforts into listing on my other selling site where it is still a better option for acquiring Canadian buyers and where I still get a better discount for those items that ship Canada Post Expedited...
